Why are they suddenly making trousers ridiculously long?!

I’ve ordered several pairs of trousers lately that are just ridiculously long. I’m 5 foot 8 so not exactly short yet even on tiptoe I’ve several cm
of fabric dragging on the floor. How are people supposed to wear these exactly??

Todays were from Mango but I’ve noticed it in several places recently.

Perhaps a reaction to the fashion for three inches too short trousers/jeans, which anyone who followed I considered to be a fashion victim. I wonder if someone suggested it as a joke to see how many would fall for it, a modern equivalent of the Emperor's New Clothes.
