Shorts if you're on the chubbier side?

More of a search for opinions really...

Always been a size 14/16 really, at one time bigger than that for a while. Always covered up, even in summer I'm in tailored jackets and layers, but we have had really good weather today and I'm already sweltering and a bit sick of this self imposed clothes prison I put myself in!

I would love to wear a loose/light linen tunic type top and shorts! I'm dreaming of how cooling and comfortable it must feel! But what do we think about chunky thighs in shorts? I'm talking just above knee level, not ready for shorter yet. Is there something else that's more flattering that would look better? Would you do a double take at someone bigger in shorts?

This all sounds pathetic I know, im 33 for goodness sake you'd think id not care what people think but here I am.

M&S do loads that are nice and comfortable. And who gives a hoot about what you look like? They are all busy worrying about how they look themselves! Be cool and comfy!

Not answering your question but I always find if I'm a bit self conscious then I put a bit of tan leg make up on, it makes me feel a lot better. I've got extremely pale legs though.

At only 33, that outfit you describe with long shorts sounds like the ‘f word’ that we don’t mention on S&B, especially on someone curvier.

I am very pear shaped with thick legs due to lipedema and just above the knee sits well enough to show my knee fat and chunky calf. It is more ‘covered’ but not at all flattering. Getting the entire leg out really does look much better.
