Looking for the perfect parka/raincoat

PotterLottery · 30/05/2022 22:14

I'm searching for a perfect parka style raincoat and I wonder if anybody has any recommendations or brands for me to try

Must be:

-Khaki green
-Actually rain proof/waterproof (for the school run!)

  • Lightweight
  • Available in size 16

Budget is around £100. I currently have this Joules one hanging up at home
www.joules.com/Women/Clothing/Loxley/Longline-Waterproof-Jacket?size=10&id=214294|GRAPELF|10

but I just can't decide if I love it or not and I might return it. It looks gorgeous on my friend but she is a lot slimmer than me! It feels heavy and the material isnt my favourite.

Help!

The Uniqlo/Marni one is just over budget: www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-marni-blocktech-oversized-half-coat-448934.html

PotterLottery · 30/05/2022 23:27

Ah thank you but I don't think I'm cool enough for that one 😅

Rains parka raincoats are amazing and tick all the boxes. I have two and have been kept dry in all weather!

chalkyc2 · 31/05/2022 05:13

I like the Uniqlo one!!

Seasalt are a bit dull but they do keep you dry. They are also a bit over budget at about £150. But would recommend, overall.

Fleur405 · 31/05/2022 05:27

I have this Uniqlo one and it’s pretty good at keeping the rain out. It’s lightweight though so you’d need jumper/cardigan underneath when it’s cold.

Fleur405 · 31/05/2022 05:28

And bonus points for being under budget. Their ultra lightweight down is actually good for wearing underneath it in the colder months.

Norachance · 31/05/2022 05:37

I have this Ilse Jacobson one from John Lewis. They are in store but for some reason not showing on website. Mine is as the photo but they have khaki too. It was £102.

I always recommend Protected Species on these threads. I honestly don't work for them but they are brilliant, waterproof, wind proof and look really nice. I'm not sure if they're £100 as I've had mine for years but there may be a discount code floating around.

JoanThursday · 31/05/2022 08:04

I've got this one from Kin at John Lewis. It is quite oversized - I am 12/14 and got a 12, but probably a 10 would have worked.

I was caught in a torrential downpour last week without a brolly and I can confirm that it kept me dry! It's within your budget too.

FinallyHere · 31/05/2022 08:14

Waives to @boatahoy

Another vote for Protected Species

Not the cheapest but really beautiful fabric and truly waterproof. Look out for a promo code

Amelion · 31/05/2022 13:51

Have you looked at Stutterheim or Rains ? Both do various colours/lengths/styles etc.

DashboardConfessional · 31/05/2022 14:49

I have a version of this but mine has a furry hood.

Trespass Daytrip

The link goes to black but the green is on the same page.

IvorCutler · 31/05/2022 15:41

I have 2 from rains and I like them but recently got this and prefer it! It’s fully waterproof. You can adjust the goggles to make it more fitted. Runs very oversized!

Goggles? Toggles.

PotterLottery · 31/05/2022 17:37

Thanks for the ideas! I love the protected species ones, but they're out of my price range and even with a discount code I doubt they're going to be taken down £100 🙈 will check out all of the others now. Thanks ❤️

I know what you mean about the costs @PotterLottery. I registered on the P.S. website and gave them my email address. Looked around but did not order anything.

Next day, an email arrived offering 50% off.

Reader, I went for it.

Zinnia · 01/06/2022 01:42

I have my eye on this https://www.zalando.co.uk/samsoee-samsoee-stala-long-jacket-waterproof-jacket-rosin-sa321u018-m11.html
It's in the mould of the Rains ones mentioned above but I prefer the longer length

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 01/06/2022 06:23

Maybe look at TK Maxx when they’re Autumn/Winter stuff is in. I picked up a Didriksons fully waterproof and wind proof jacket with hood there. It was around £80 and is brilliant.

Jillybloop393 · 08/06/2022 18:43

I'd recommend Craghoppers every time. If you can't purchase one new that's within your budget, I'd go onto ebay and buy one that's in excellent condition ..... there are great bargains to be had, and they're a really good brand.

blondiepigtails · 08/06/2022 18:59

Protected Species sometimes have huge sales. Sign up to their newsletter. They are beautiful products

DanceIndiaDance · 08/06/2022 19:19

Lands end parkas are fab. They are fully waterproof and offer different sizes and styles. They often have sales on and come under 100!

Oldhorse · 08/06/2022 19:28

All my raincoats are Joules or Next. I find them so good and great quality.

Laquila · 08/06/2022 19:49

Protected Species are brilliant - I have their City Walker in khaki and it's such a useful coat. I also have the Mac in black and whilst it's handy for work, I don't love it as much. I should add that I bought both years ago, when they were cheaper, and also both in the sales! It's worth keeping an eye on eBay and Vinted for them.

I also hugely rate Didriksons, and they change their styles so often that you can often get good discounts on older stock.

Currently I have a Fat Face parka that's a couple of years old that fits your brief - worth a look there, and on eBay too maybe in case there's any preloved one? It's a longish khaki peach-finish fabric one, with a hood, and massive pockets.

zippy30 · 09/06/2022 11:46

Another vote for Protected Species. I bought a khaki waterproof coat two years ago and it's as good as new and will definitely last several more years. I think it was around £120 after a 40% discount. Expensive still, but definitely worth it.
