Bought a top and it's still got the security tag on!

Bought a lovely top from M&S today - put it on to go out and it's still got the security tag on. Any ideas? Please don't ask me to take it back (not local).

I did wonder why the security alarm went off when I left 🫢 (lots of others going out at the same time so assumed was them).

Unfortunately you need to take it back to a branch of M&S with proof of purchase and get them to remove the tag.

This has happened to me in loads of retailers over the years. The most annoying was when I had Boots makeup in my bag and it would set the security alarms at Asda off but never in any Boots branch.

Argh that is so annoying.

Oh and depending on your demographics some shop assistants look at you like you are a thief until they realise you are giving them a cold hard stare.

Is there a food m and s near you ? If so take it there or call them and get them to send you another top free postage and take it back when you are passing
It's actually only magents so if you google it will tell you how to remove them .

A strong magnet will release them, have done it with a top I bought a few years back. The tag clearly didn't work as no alarms went off when I left the shop!

I've taken an item to another clothing shop( not the same company as the one I bought it from), along with the receipt showing I purchased the item and they have been helpful getting the tag off

Thanks everyone. I can sort it out next weekend.

@RedWingBoots I'm very a 'proper looking' mid 50s kind of person but I have an excellent cold stare ..

When this happened to me DH removed it with pliers.
I was worried he would damage the item but he didn’t
