Nail polish for hiding horrible toenails

What's the best (gel like) nail polish for toes? I've got horrible toe nails (tried taking the medication for sorting the fungal nail but it made me feel ill). They will just have to be filed and covered for holidays but looking for nail polish that will last on holidays and look smooth and gives good coverage. Any recommendations?

I saw a podiatrist a few weeks ago about what I suspected was fungal nail on one of my toes. It turned out not to be that in the end, but she recommended a brand of polish that you might want to take a look at. I had no idea that 'normal' high street stuff is full of nasties.

It's Dr.'s Remedy - I picked up some base coat, a couple of colours and a matte top coat from eBay / Amazon. About £12 per bottle. It's lasted excellently and when I took it off this morning my dodgy nail definitely didn't look any worse underneath. Possibly even slightly healthier.

Hope that helps!

no nail polish recommendations but have you tried the nail mycosis stuff from imperial feet? it really helped mine.

Afterfire · 29/05/2022 13:25

Barry M Gelly nail polish - a good few coats on top of their base coat and then their Plumpy top coat - the plumpy top coat is very thick and helps to even out any imperfections.

@boydy99 oh I've never heard of that...mine are really bad though Confused

The only thing that worked for me was Vicks Vapour Rub. I used it on toenails daily after showering all through the winter months. The improvement was gradual and overall it took two winters to banish every last trace but my nails are finally pink and healthy now.

Originally saw it recommended by a poster on MN, so thank you whoever you are!

I love the rimmel super gel, I have a coral and hot pink both gorgeous.

A podiarist recommend this to me too. She said it doesn't stain or ruin your nails like the usual nail polishes does. I've ordered a couple of colours from Amazon and Ebay like you have but its hard to judge the colours just seeing them online.

Which colours have you bought? I've got a nude one and a pink one. The nude one is just the right colour but the pink one is a bit bright. I want a reddish/purplish colour for my toes. I wear light colours on my fingernails but like something brighter on my toenails.

I’ve just used essie and an essie top coat and honestly I have been so impressed with it as it’s lasted 7 days with minimal chipping on my thumb only. I’d imagine on your toes it would last much longer. It’s so hard wearing .

My toe nails looked absolutely manky and disgusting a month ago …in fact my big toe nail had a green mark on it !!🤢I used Daktacort for two weeks and my feet now look lovely .I had nail gel last week…my feet are now pretty 😍

I second Essie but stick with the normal range, I find the gel range doesn't last anywhere near a well

Essie nail varnish lasts weeks on my toes. The best nail varnish ime

If its just for holiday what about stick on fakes? I have manky big toenail so did one on each foot for recent hols, advantage is you can paint them before you stick them on so avoiding any ham fisted mess round the edges 😀

Sconeface · 30/05/2022 14:46

Have you considered glitter polish instead? Hides any lumpy areas and usually covers any chipping too.

DorritLittle · 30/05/2022 14:50

I have some Dr Remedy's. It was recommended by a podiatrist. I use Vicks daily too, and it is the only thing to have made visible significant difference to my nails. You can't really tell I have a fungal infection now. Hopefully over time it will go but if not I will carry on with Vicks.

Can you recommend any particular ones? Do they stay on even if you wear shoes instead of sandals? Thanks Grin

duvetdrama · 30/05/2022 19:33

I did wonder about fake ones...glitter is a good shout actually and then Vicks!!

I had medication prescribed by a dermatologist which I had to take for around a year. Nails are fine now. I get them filed, clipped etc every 2 weeks and a different gel polished applied.

Think I bought mine in Primark 😁 I did use heavy duty glue and yes stayed on the full week of holiday in trainers and socks as well as sandals.

I think Margaret Dabbs clinics offer laser treatment for fungal nails. Not sure if it's effective but may be worth a try longer term
