I'm naturally dark brown.
I've been getting highlights for years now.
My hair is really dry /damaged
Can this be fixed or not?
I have started using kerastase shampoo and hair mask and laying off the heat
Would you just chop it all off ?

I would go for a chin length, blunt, angled bob. It will make your hair look much thicker and healthier.

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 08:27

It's frustrating as although I do get highlights regularly...I use good products on my hair yet still gets damaged

Have you tried Olaplex? It's transformed my friends damaged hair

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 08:28

I've tried olaplex, smartbond ,redken and now kerastase

I have had problem with my hair breaking off over the past couple of years, much worse than yours. Mine is very very thin. I have not had it coloured since November now and recently went and had it cut to bobbed length. It has made such a difference to it, I have started using Olapex and try hard not to wash and straighten it too often. Go for a good cut is my advice!

When your hair is wet how does it feel? Is it stringy?

You might need a protein treatment rather than moisturising treatments?

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 08:30

The only time it looks nice now is when I wave it.
That hides a multitude of sins
I'm going to lay off the full head highlights and just stick with t section for a 6 months I think.

Yes, I'd chop it all off.

My hair was like this and it wouldn't grow, as it just kept breaking when it got to a certain length. I gave it a good chop and stopped dying it. It's now longer than it's ever been and my natural grey. It wasn't as painful as I thought, as the blonde made the grow out easier as there wasn't a dark re growth.

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 08:31

@SophSoSo no not stringy at all.
I think the mask I'm using is a protein mask (it says 6% protein ) redken

Looks better when it's waved I think but worry about heat damage

Chop it!

Echosound · 28/05/2022 08:40

Def take soMe length off op.
thats not highlights though is it? Looks like the whole thing has been bleached to me. Is the hairdressers beaching down the length every time rather than just the roots?

WindowsSmindows · 28/05/2022 08:43

Would you consider going back to a more natural color? It seems likely that over hi lighting is the problem here.

Sisisimone · 28/05/2022 08:43

Not everyone's hair is strong enough to cope with years of bleaching. You may have to go darker to save your hair

Sisisimone · 28/05/2022 08:44

Also, it doesn't look like highlights, just looks completely bleached

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 08:44

Yeah it's highlights but I think as I've been getting them for that long ...I'm nearly fully blonde.
She is yeah the full strand every time.
I think eventually I might go back to a balayage (so roots natural then let it grow out like that )
Maybe my hair can't take all the bleaching

AnyFucker · 28/05/2022 08:46

Honestly ? Chop short and start all over again. Go back to your natural colour slowly by just having fine baby lights in the regrowth section and then let them fade out.

That amount of bleach has ruined your hair and looks a bit dated.

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 08:52

This is before all of the bleaching happened

Much better !

OldTinHat · 28/05/2022 09:08

Definitely cut it off and start again. Your brunette photo is lovely, get back to that. Bleached blonde is a bit naff imo.

dudsville · 28/05/2022 09:15

Your dark hair looks vibrant and healthy. Is it natural?

Your bleached hair looks very bleached, none of that vibrancy shows through. I'm interested that waving it makes such a positive difference to how it looks, but you're right, it definitely does.

avocadotofu · 28/05/2022 09:18

Your brunette hair looks so much better! I'd go for the chop and start over.

jeffbezoz · 28/05/2022 09:19

Don't straighten it. Just oil it.

Funkypickle · 28/05/2022 09:22

Hairstylist here. With olaplex you need to keep doing it. Every single appt to build up the bonds. Only have the roots done and don't pull the bleach through.

Have a good 2 inches off min.

Highly recommend the kerastase cicaextreme masque. It's saved my tortured locks. I can actually brush and style now with minimal breakage. I also use olaplex every time and use the olaplex 4p (blonde shampoo)

You can sort it out, it will just take time and money.

userxx · 28/05/2022 09:22

Is this the same persons hair! The brunette colour is gorgeous.
