New to Sézane!

Innocenta · 27/05/2022 11:52

I've loved Sézane's look for ages but never got round to ordering anything, now really tempted to go for it (no particular reason, just strong New Clothes Lust), but wondering if there's anything I need to know? Do they tend to size small or large in reality compared to the information they give on the site? Do they do new customer discounts?

I'm really undecided about what to get but thinking probably a lower cost / easier to fit piece to start off with, as ideally I'd like to not have to deal with returning. So something with more flexibility of fit. I'm very, very open to suggestions if anyone has a Sézane piece they love! Equally, I don't want to get an accessory as I'm hoping to zero in on my correct Sézane size so I can also buy safely from Vinted. Grin

Does anyone know the name of the Sezane French Facebook group? I've tried to search for it but can't find it! Thanks

Primprom · 31/05/2022 18:11

Sezane Addict
There's also Sezane irl

imstilljenny2 · 31/05/2022 19:53

Thanks @Primprom I'm in the Sezane IRL group, the addict UK&Ireland group and the addict USA & Canada group but can't find the French one. I'll ask on one of those groups.

SabrePrattler · 31/05/2022 20:03

I keep meaning to take the leap with Sézane. The posters who say that the quality is impressive and that the returns process has improved are very encouraging!

LeeMiller · 31/05/2022 22:44

When buying preloved it’s worth bearing in mind that there are also fake Sezanes around, and I’ve seen some being sold as real unfortunately. Personally I ask to take a close look at photos of the labels (especially the care labels as these are more obviously dodgy), try to compare photos with Sezane’s original images if I know the style name, and ask about receipts/order confirmation etc, especially if it’s an expensive item.

Saladtoes · 01/06/2022 00:07

Seasoned Sezane buyer here! Quality is hit and miss (like many labels it has deteriorated from a few years ago) but generally the natural fibres are good. Lots of (overpriced) polyester creeping in though, which is best avoided. Footwear and jewellery generally isn’t great. The Gaspard Sweater comes up huge and is IMO massively overrated. Returns are currently much better than they were and delivery to the UK is currently free - not just on orders over £200.

DoctorMarten · 01/06/2022 00:24

I've bought several dresses and skirts - all pretty gorgeous. I love Sézane!

Prettypussy · 01/06/2022 08:27

I have found sesame to be slightly generous fit- a bit like Hush! I'm a size 12 usually in most other shops, but is some styles I've looked better in the size 10 at Sezane, but in some I've gone with a 12. The size guide under each item is useful and I've found it pretty accurate- it tells you whether to size up or down etc. for the sort of fit you like.

apairofblueeyes100 · 01/06/2022 10:27

I am a Sezane obsessive.

Last year I curated a classic 'forever' wardrobe all from Sezane - I dread to add up the cost of what I spent.

However, I now love the fact that I always have something to wear and as it is all fairly classic pieces, will not date. This year, I buy the odd piece but as I have most of the essentials and have created a capsule wardrobe, I don't need to make many purchases which is a great stage to be at.

The facebook groups are brilliant for advice and I have also bought some 'pre-loved' items from these groups.

I highly recommend this brand and have also found their customer service to be excellent too.

LeeMiller · 01/06/2022 11:18

Can I be nosy and ask what’s in your capsule wardrobe @apairofblueeyes100 if you don’t mind sharing?

Primprom · 01/06/2022 11:38

what @LeeMiller said please tell us @apairofblueeyes100 !

My personal faves for classics are: Brut sexy jeans, Arthur trousers, Chloe, Gaspards, a beautiful Diane or Dalhia or Vic or Victoria, some Nelly skirts, lately I am loving Anil to go with the skirts, Paloma camis, and of course the belts - Artemis...ooops may be too much already 😃

apairofblueeyes100 · 01/06/2022 13:05

@LeeMiller @Primprom

Don't mind sharing at all:

Bottoms: - Bought 3 x the perfect slim jeans (great if you are petite), 3 x brut sexy (proper denim but size up in these), 2 x clara trousers - a great classic trouser and also great for petites. A nelly skirt of course!

Tops: A LOT of silk blouses (including 3 Chloes for example), Gaspards - probably got about 6 of these - great wearing back or front as a jumper or as a more traditional cardigan, loads of other knitwear - Sezane knitwear is unique and in such lovely designs. Tees - lots of these (Malcolm for instance is such a basic staple). Purchased a few cotton shirts/tops and a dress. I also got a few cami type silk tops which are great under knits or on their own.

Accessories - some jewelry (but also got good dupes from Etsie), a few belts, sandals and classic flats.

and voila a classic (to me) wardrobe.

Gosh, that sounds an awful lot when I write it down but I have really limited my spending this year as last year's purchases have really paid off.

LeeMiller · 01/06/2022 14:01

Thanks @apairofblueeyes100 I really like your selection. I’ve been wanting a Chloe shirt for ages but I can’t decide which colour. And patterned silk shirts are more practical with a toddler.
I’ve been attempting something similar with my own wardrobe but with a handful of brands not only Sézane (I love the tops and trousers but the skirts/dresses generally don’t suit/fit me at all). It’s so satisfying to open up your wardrobe and find things that look and feel good.

I like your choices too @Primprom , Anil tops are amazing aren’t they. Definitely my most worn Sezane item, so comfortable and versatile.

Primprom · 01/06/2022 18:42

Thank you @apairofblueeyes100@apairofblueeyes100 love your capsule! Tbh I hadn't thought of Clara but you're right they're a classic now that I think. Have been too enamoured with the high waists. How would Clara fit for a petite but pear shaped do you think? Is there anything you like in the new season?

And those gaspard are so addictive! (warning you
@LeeMiller!) at first I thought they looked too simplistic, didn't get the hype, but tried it, and they are so elegant irl, especially when buttons are at the back. Now they're a staple and I have 4 😂 Chloe I'd def recommend it too. Have an ecru and sage, and now eyeing the raspberry. How is your colouring? I'm an autumn and sage is great. I find Sezane colours on winters especially good.

Sooverthemill · 01/06/2022 18:51

I have manu jeans in two colours, 4 leontines, Ethan jumper, several merino jumpers, loads of T-shirts, 3 skirts, brut sexy, a Scott trench, 4 dresses, 3 Pierros, other blouses, three sweatshirts. My wardrobe is pretty informal but everything I have mixes in with my other bits and pieces. Gaspard and Achilles were too oversized and I've sold on the mixed fibre knitwear. I only get the cotton or merino items now. I love my Sézane stuff and agree, you have to try it to see if it works. For reference I am 5'1 size 8 or 10

Sooverthemill · 01/06/2022 18:52

Ooh plus 2 Willa jackets & a wool Will

Innocenta · 01/06/2022 18:54

Thank you so much to everyone who is replying, this is incredibly helpful 💖

LeeMiller · 01/06/2022 19:46

I’m a winter @Primprom , I love the cream Chloe but I know black or navy or a jewel shade would suit me better.

I have a Barry but quite fancy a Gaspard too. Generally I find a lot of the knitwear looks too big on me even in XXS (I’m 5ft 2 /U.K. 6-8), but the fitted styles are ok.

Clara are great for petites. They have some stretch but I had to size up compared to the perfect slim and brut sexy jeans as they were too tight on the hips, and I’m fairly straight up and down. The Gustav on the other hand are very generous, it’s annoying they can’t be consistent.

Is the wool Will itchy @Sooverthemill ? I’ve been watching a grey one for a while.

Tiddlywinkly · 01/06/2022 20:01

@LeeMiller can I ask if the ecru Chloe blouse is more of a cream or white in your opinion? Thanks

Sooverthemill · 01/06/2022 20:04

@LeeMiller it isn't lined and if it was on bare skin it would be but for me it's an autumn early winter jacket so I always wear it over long sleeves.

I would like to try Clara trousers and am waiting for a preloved pair to come up.

Primprom · 01/06/2022 21:35

@LeeMiller if you're a winter the electric blue gaspard is made for you! Wish I could carry those colours off 😄 will def check out the Clara trousers.

@Sooverthemill im a similar height, how does the Scott fit to you?

Also Achilles, it seems to be really popular as a classic but I wonder if it's too big for petites. Has anyone got any experience?

@Tiddlywinkly i'd say the Chloe ecru is much whiter than I expected, but definitely off white colour, so not pure brilliant white.

Innocenta · 01/06/2022 21:52

I'm 5'7" - would you say the brand fits less well if you're not at all petite? Idk if this means anything to anyone but in terms of Kibbe types I'm a soft dramatic, so really not petite in build at all despite being quite a low weight. I end up wearing a huge range of sizes because it's hard to get the right fit now I'm not as underweight as I used to be. It definitely sounds like Sézane is incredible on petite women but maybe not so much if you're taller?

OP posts:
LeeMiller · 01/06/2022 23:56

I definitely don’t think you need to be petite - in fact I think lot of it is too voluminous for someone truly petite and would suit someone taller better (probably still slim/willowy). I am a petite gamine (can’t remember which subset) and quite a lot of Sezane stuff is too oversized or ruffly for me. I love the 7/8 trousers, simple tanks and T-shirts and slim cut shirts (all tucked in or tied) but the knitwear/midi skirts and dresses drown me, there’s just too much fabric. I’m not sure what a soft dramatic suits but the brand has such wide range of silhouettes that I’m sure some of it would look great.

I always take an xs or xxs in Sezane but am an xs-s in most other French brands (a lot of which do work well for fairly petite women).

Sooverthemill · 02/06/2022 10:18

@Primprom its perfect on me. People who are tall say sleeves too short

sezane is good for all heights I would say but you need to look at sizing advice and reviews.
I have electric blue Willa and leontine and they are fabulous. I have no idea what ‘season’ I am

Primprom · 02/06/2022 11:13

I wouldn't say it's for petites, they're very generous with their fabrics (it's a differenting factor I think due to their price range) Always needed to take up their trousers and midi/long skirts. The only exception was the Aurora dress, which is unbelievably short it looked like an ice skater, but not in a good way! As @LeeMiller said, sometimes ruffles which look theoretically amazing and elegant on tall ladies on those photos drown me too. Fb pages are great to check real life reviews.

@Sooverthemill thank you for the feedback, I might pop to the London store in autumn to check it out at some point when it's back in stock.
