Chanel lipstick for my friend. Chemo ‘sending strength’ present

My lovely friend started the first of 16 Chemo sessions (for BC) today. She has resolved to ‘dress up’ for each one. I would go with her if I was allowed ( and match her on the dress stakes).

Anyway I had a whim that I would send her a Chanel lipstick as a solidarity and strength talisman! It would have to be Chanel wouldn’t it? Icon status. Anyway I just looked and £45!!!!

Any colour suggestions and cheaper place to buy or (gasp) alternative brand- but I just don’t think it would have the same feeling..

am I being mad/inappropriate? What do you think?

oh, she is fair-ish and has very tightly curly hair (which she may shave off imminently)

I think that's a lovely idea! £45 is a lot for a lipstick, if you can afford then go for it. If not, look at Mac or Charlotte Tilbury? Not as iconic as Chanel but still lovely. I hope your friend makes a good recovery x

That's a really sweet idea, I can't advice on the brand or where to get it from, I like MAC stuff not sure that has a wow factor but what could be super thoughtful is if you included a little note maybe something like because every time you smile it lights up a room etc etc that way it's lip related or something along those lines :)

Most Chanel lipsticks are around the £30 - £35 mark. I think it's a lovely gesture and clearly in keeping with your friend's current approach. The very best of luck to her.

I’ve just typed ‘Chanel lipstick new full size’ into eBay and there are loads at about the £20 mark
ive bought Mac lipsticks and Chanel eyeshadows this way so maybe worth a look?

Mac ruby woo is extremely drying, I don’t think it would be good for someone going through chemo.

Ok great - £35 a bit more like it - and no postage. But is number 99 ‘pirate’ a good shade - it’s bright red. (I wear bright red no probs) do you think ‘eminently wearable just brighter than neutral’ or ‘fuck this I’m wearing red lipstick’? Number 99 is the latter ;-)

Personally I would go for Dior 999 in velvet. Absolutely a classic and suits everyone.

I've got a chanel lipstick, but 100% prefer my YSL one. Its got a much nicer case, as well as lasting and feeling better.

You can have Dior lipstick personalised with her name too. I’ve given lots of engraved Dior lipsticks as gifts.

As someone with very fair colouring, I’d take a picture of your friend to the make up counter to ask for advice on the right shade of red. The wrong shade can make me look dreadful!

I honestly wouldn’t go for bright red though - unless this is a colour she normally wears.

What is her favourite shade generally?

Right I’ve bought the Chanel. I’m invoking the spirit of Madame Coco! She’s not a shrinking violet so the red will fit the sentiment.

A lovely idea but think about it.... She won't be feeling up to going anywhere wearing it for quite some considerable time. It's not the most appropriate present. I think something that she can enjoy now would be more appropriate
