Rubber soles on leather shoes

If you have leather shoes with leather soles, have you had rubber soles added by a cobbler?
I’m tempted to do this to protect the soles, but I know that some brands advise against it.

I’ve had this done several times when I’ve worn through the leather sole but the rest of the shoe is still in good condition. Works well.

Thanks everyone. So it’s not affected the integrity of the shoe? On the JC website, it says that it can cause the heel to snap.
