Really dry knotty hair after highlights

Had my hair done for first time in about 6 years (have been box dying it previously). Not quite the result I was hoping for but I think I had high expectations and realise after so long it will prob take a while to get the colour I want. BUT since I’ve had it done it’s so dry and knotty. I can tie it back and underneath becomes almost matted. Same if I have it down. I wash every 2 days and use conditioner; it’s just a nightmare! Any advice? Products / methods etc? Thanknuou

It will be the product you are using. Are you using a coloured hair shampoo/conditioner?

Bleach is very drying. So it's not surprising that it's worse than when you use a standard box dye.

Grab some deep moisturising conditioner masks and leave that on overnight.
Coconut oil is good too.

thank you both; yes use shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair and heat defence stuff. Had some argon oil heat defence stuff but it made my hair feel awful! Will try the hair masks and coconut oil!

Few intensive conditioners you’ll be fine, leave normal conditioner in longer too, my hair is always like this post dye.

Moroccan oil.

Use an intensive masque for five minutes before you wash your hair or overnight if you can. Alternate with a moisture shampoo/conditioner and a protein shampoo/conditioner. Wash your hair as few times a week as you can get away with.

Percy and Reed intensive hair mask works wonders, I leave it in overnight and hair is so soft in morning

What happens when you stretch a strand of hair? If it snaps straight away, then it needs moisture. But if it stretches more than 30% then snaps, then it needs protein.

For protein, use Olaplex.

My hair was a dry knotty mess from balayage. A couple of weeks ago I got Rene Furterer's night care cream for super dry hair, put it all over my hair, went to sleep, showered in the morning and it was like bloody magic! My hair's back to being shiny and smooth again. No longer have a problem with knots either. So far so go, I'm very happy with this!

K-18 is magic in a pot - not cheap but totally worth it. My hair is dark brown bleached up so I can have literally all the colours of the rainbow, and it's still soft and shiny and healthy. (Also my hairdresser is a total genius, and on her recommendation I also use pH balanced shampoo and conditioner which definitely makes a difference)

Loreal miracle water its a game changer
