Sweaty Betty

This is a bit cringe so I’ve name changed!
I do Pilates x2 pw, not a mat class, more using equipment and usually with the same 2 other clients and same teacher. I don’t enjoy it but I do it for a bad back, It’s all I do as just not into working out. I can afford it and have built it into my routine. I rarely miss a class.
I’ve finally succumbed to buying some decent workout gear from sweaty Betty. I’ve half got away with old gym wear I’ve owned for almost 10 years! I like to look nice in life so I suppose buying good gym wear at least means I’m now committed because I never bothered about making an effort before!
I’ve got…
2 leggings
3 interchangeable tops
1 sports bra
I love it all! It’s amazing how ‘compact but free to move I am in the leggings!

How much do I need for x2 pw and how often do you wash Pilates gear? I don’t sweat at all in class, it’s often cold!… maybe I’m not working hard enough? Is it gross to rewear once?

Do I need 1 more outfit?? Please don’t encourage me to spend more than I need to!

Any recommendations?

I wash my kit after each class or workout (but I do get sweaty!) - it dries really quickly. Also, I have maybe three or four outfit combinations and don’t mind wearing the same thing all the time. It’s only for exercise! SB stuff is too expensive to have loads, but I’d rather have two good pairs of leggings than five pairs that each have one thing that annoys me (don’t stay up, don’t have pockets, don’t give good support, etc. I’ve tried other brands and don’t rate them).

Twitterwhooooo · 21/05/2022 17:28

That sounds plenty for two classes a week. Sports stuff dries very quickly when washed.

Just as an aside, do people really rate SB for sports stuff? I'm a runner, but of an age where I need to start doing some yoga/pilates for suppleness and core strength and only have an assortment of ebay/race t-shirt cheapo stuff that does the trick, but I wouldn't mind investing a bit of cash into looking smarter!

@FourEyesGood
Thanks for your response! I only live with my partner so we can get away with not having loads of washing everyday. He doesn't work out much.
I think I just like it all so much I'm going to buy some more! Although I have found the sizing in the tops off. The bra Is ridiculously tight and a loose top far too loose!
I feel a bit embarrassed to walk into the studio later but fake it till you make it!

Sweaty Betty stuff is amazing! They do distance shopping at the outlet in Bicester too…. If you text them the message you back with a virtual appointment…. You tell them your sizes and the types of items you are looking for and they send you videos of what’s in stock. I’ve had some brilliant deals. Plus if you sign up on their website the send you a 50% off code for your birthday on any item!

they dry super quickly too! We are away this weekend and I’d forgotten my trousers for today:::: I’d travelled in sweaty Betty leggings yesterday but knows they would need a quick wash before I wore them today…. I hand washed them in the sink and put the on while they were fairly wet…. They were bone dry within half an hour. Love them!

Sounds like you've got plenty stuff there already, OP! I wouldn't think you need to buy any more.

I have a few bits of SB stuff and it's good, but not worth the money IMO. Decathlon stuff is similar in quality and a fraction of the price. I only ever buy SB when it's heavily discounted.

countdowntonap · 21/05/2022 17:57

I wash tops every time, leggings get a couple of wears. I don’t overly rate the tops @Twitterwhooooo I have 6-10 tops, can’t recall exactly, and think they lose their colour after a couple of months.

There are some surprisingly nice tops on Amazon, for example the shop www.amazon.co.uk/Sports-Outdoor-Clothing-icyzone-Outdoors/s?rh=n%3A116189031%2Cp_4%3Aicyzone

^have a few tops and bras from here and people always ask where they’re from.

Oysho have lovely sports and leisurewear too. They’re a sister company of Zara.

Also seconding Decatholn @fellrunner85

Bamboo clothing.co.uk yoga pants are half the price of SB Gary style and better quality.

I run in SB power leggings, phone in pocket. I love them. They wash well and look good as new after a couple of years. I do mixed sport - always wash leggings after a run but if I do or hour slow yoga will normally use again. I was like you OP - did sport in old t shirts for about 10 years before I reckoned I did enough to invest in some kit.

fellrunner85 · 21/05/2022 20:45

I can only run in SB Powers in deepest darkest winter. They're so thick that they're good for yoga etc where you don't get hot; but no good for running IME.

EmmaStone · 21/05/2022 21:42

I now pretty much only wear SB, and have built up a collection over several years. I've never needed to replace a pair of leggings yet. If I've not particularly sweated, I'll re-wear an outfit, but I usually sweat too much! I do a variety of stuff (running, yoga, PT training, home workouts), and wear the same things for all activities (but tend to favour my newest SB leggings with pockets for running, they're also not as thick as some of the older ones).

Sales are excellent, plus deals throughout the year.
