Thirtieth birthday present ideas

My daughter is 30 in July and I am totally stuck as to what to buy her. I bought her Ruth Tomlinson diamond studs as a graduation present last year, so don't want to buy anymore jewelry. She is a junior doctor so cannot wear a watch in work. She is a petite size 4-6, loves Sezane clothing and my budget is up to £1000. Any ideas really appreciated.

Did she completely love the earrings? By which I mean, are you completely, infallibly certain of her tastes? Because if my mother were proposing to buy me an expensive gift, lovely as she is I’d really prefer her to ask me what I’d like. Surprises are nice but there’s nothing more frustrating than a gift that is just slightly wrong.

Yes she adored the earings.

Mont Blanc pen is 100% what I would want

I’d rather an experience than stuff - fancy pants meal out and a night at a spa sort of place, massage the following day - would be my idea of a perfect 30th b’day. Or a ballet at covent garden. Thanks covid. Not bitter at all 😬😬 haha.
Could you ask what she’d like? Ruins any sort of surprise but you won’t be left wondering whether she ‘really wants it’

I vote money and tell her you wanted to buy her something memorable for her 30th and would like her to choose something special. I know if i was given this gift I would think it was very thoughtful and kind to let me choose my own, and whatever I purchased with the money would give me lovely memories.

As it happened I bought my own 30th present (my own money) and bought a designer handbag as why the heck not if I'm paying.

A shopping trip to pick out a nice bag

GettingStuffed · 24/05/2022 10:03

My daughter is 30 too her husband is getting her a spa day, with overnight stay for them both

BritInAus · 24/05/2022 10:13

Definitely an experience! Personally I'd cry if I got a pen!

Can you take her shopping to pick something out? Make a day of it? My MIL took me out for a lovely lunch in London and then to pick out a bag from a brand I love for my 30th. I think if you’re spending that much on anything other than a very classic design (eg diamond studs) it’s best to see if she likes it. I took myself shopping with a similar budget for my 30th and ended up in about 5 different jewellers before I found what I wanted (the piece I’d been eying up on line didn’t suit in person!).

I wouldn’t get a fancy pen if she’s not that way inclined/would use it a lot at home! As a fellow junior doctor pens go walk about all the time in the NHS, frustrating when it’s a biro, devastating when it’s a Mont Blanc! The best work pen gift for your average junior doctor is one of those boxes of 100 black biros…
