URGENT HELP NEEDED - Royal Chelsea Flower Show Ball early next week

DoItAfraid · 17/05/2022 12:35

I have no clue what to wear.

I thought of wearing something African style
just to be so far off piste as to avoid making a total faux pas.

I am so confused as to what dress would suit
both walking around the flowers and then also a move to a multiple course champagne dinner till late.

Please, please help me!

Oh sorry I am size 10, booby to about size 12, 157cm tall. Cant walk in skyscrapers heels. Nothing short as I have knee fat 🙈. Can tolerate heat well but have good arms (toned - and shapley). Bum not too big in the black woman stakes.

*skyscraper
*shapley
*last sentence means I am curvy but not a massive discrepancy between waist and hip ratio.

Sika

I don’t know what your budget is but I would start by looking at Sika. If only so I can live vicariously through you because I love these dresses 🙂

Although they might be made to order. I would call just to check!

Intothevoid3 · 17/05/2022 12:50

I’m not sure this is the same company but similar if not! No wait time.

Sika at Wolf and Badger

TheLongRider · 17/05/2022 12:55

I can also recommend M.A.Dkollection. Beautiful dresses that look amazing. www.madkollection.com/

This is URGENT !
LOL get real

PortiaFimbriata · 17/05/2022 13:04

(Obvs that suggestion was only if you wanted to look like everyone else rather than ploughing your own furrough with an African look).

VikingVolva · 17/05/2022 13:07

Anything to do with Chelsea Flower Show requires flats, wedges or low/comfy heels. There's no where to sit down, and even the more VIP tours can be hard on the feet.

Those Sika dresses are lovely!

DoItAfraid · 20/05/2022 08:32

Thank you for all the suggestions! Much appreciated :-)

Long jumpsuit, jewelry and really clean gold sneakers. Nowhere to sit down and lots of walking. Enjoy!

They are gorgeous but have an 8 week order period.

KimikosNightmare · 21/05/2022 07:47

Why is MN obsessed with jumpsuits? Even if they were nice (which they aren't) I doubt a halter neck jumpsuit is going to look right at The Chelsea Flower Show.

DoItAfraid · 21/05/2022 07:53

Thank you @PortiaFimbriata i like this!

wow, sounds like an amazing day!

Are the invitations separate or ‘all in one’? If the former, might take two outfits and get changed, if there will be a cloakroom at the evening event that takes ‘carry on’ type bags.

If the latter, would take a change of shoes, jewelry and (smaller) bag and wear more make up for the evening bit!

does it say anything about any ‘dress code’ for the evening?

If you decide to wear same outfit for the evening would consider how to protect it from rain!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/05/2022 08:00

I always wonder about going to the loo in a jumpsuit, especially in a public loo where I'd be concerned about the state of the floor.

No idea about the ball, but are you looking for one outfit for both day and ball, or will you be able to change into your ball outfit after a long day going round the show? The latter, I hope. I'd be knackered!

Hope you have a lovely day.

Loopytiles · 21/05/2022 08:01

To me ‘ball’ implies v dressy, full length etc, ie full change of clothes.

abricotine · 21/05/2022 08:06

A floral dress isn’t frumpy, and loads of women will be wearing floral dresses at Chelsea all week! That said on Monday night a lot of women will be coming straight from work so the dress code can be more mixed or slightly more formal. You really won’t make a faux pas whatever you wear, it’s a dinner rather than a black tie type ball I think? I’d just say don’t be super dressed up and flats or sensible wedges are the order of the day/evening. It can get chilly so make sure you have something to keep you warm while walking around. Don’t forget to actually walk round and see the gardens - you don’t get much time on Monday evening so arrive promptly if you can.

abricotine · 21/05/2022 08:12

Not necessarily recommending exactly these items but this sort of combo is the kind of thing that might work:

RoseAndRose · 22/05/2022 22:42

It's portaloos at Chelsea.

They have the upmarket ones, but the whole site is flung up on the south lawns and wooded gardens of the Royal Hospital, so I don't think they're on mains water.

Flowery dresses, or something you've clearly come straight from the office in, are the main themes. I wouldn't choose a jumpsuit.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 22/05/2022 22:46

If you are really worried I have a simple solution - give me your tickets? HTH. (Not at all jealous, oh no…)
