Hair dye disaster

Coffeebean18 · 15/05/2022 21:14

So I like to occasionally dye my hair, usually deep reds, plums etc…
I have dark hair so it doesn’t always take. Anyways bought a red colour (one of those bright ones 😮and well let’s say it’s extremely red! My scalp is bright red too.

what can I do to calm it down? Any home remedies?
I’ve washed my hair 3 times since dying it, it’s looks just the same 😢

Visene? Colour Before or similar product?

Bathroom2022 · 16/05/2022 06:21

Embrace it and enjoy it? Own it today. Don't apologise for it. It will soon fade.

Coffeebean18 · 16/05/2022 07:10

Thank you @StridTheKiller for the suggestion.

Thank you @Bathroom2022 well I’m doing the school run this morning, was going to wear a hat but maybe I’ll just own it 😄

Yes! You can't apologise for it or say it went wrong. You have to say you're trying something new. Or wear a hat 😁

Head and Shoulders will tone it down... Leave the shampoo on a while before rinsing..

StephMum92 · 16/05/2022 08:04

Pantene or head and shoulders always seem to strip colour. I'd be careful using a colour before as it may go orange if you've been dying red for a while- speaking from experience 😂. Good thing with red is it does fade pretty quickly anyway.

StephMum92 · 16/05/2022 08:06

Also if it makes you feel better last year I tried to go from dark brown to blonde without the help of a hairdresser- stripped my colour, was an okay colour but then decided to whack a blonde on it- my roots went white and the rest of my hair was bright orange!

Coffeebean18 · 16/05/2022 12:34

@StephMum92 oh my goodness! 😮But hey orange hair is cool!! Well my 4 year old would be loving that!

Yep, using head and shoulders and it has made a difference.

But the sun is out and so is my red hair (and scalp 😁) so I am just getting on with it today.

No point worrying over it, I feel a happy bunny today. I must say!

Thank you all 😃

Dandruff shampoo mixed with crushed Vit C tablets ( I used about 25-30) . Do them in a blender or really crush in a plastic bag/rolling pin

Leave on a good couple of hours then condition well

Can you tell I've had dye disasters too ?

HeatherShiver · 16/05/2022 20:29

I'd put a deposit only dark red or purple over it.
I use Adore colours, you can buy them from Amazon 6 or 7 quid.
They have loads of reds and more natural colours too

ouch321 · 16/05/2022 20:38

Yeah red is a PITA.

When you want it to look fresh it fades and when you want to get rid and change to a new colour it grips as hard as it can and you can't get it out without relying on bleach.

It's a hair dye oxymoron

Coffeebean18 · 17/05/2022 12:12

Thanks for the tip @70isaLimitNotaTarget that’s very handy to know.

Well I’ve washed hair with H&S and my scalp looks a lot better., Loving the vibrant colour now on my hair and not scalp 😁
