Does anyone know how the sizing on these comes up please? I am quite a busty size 18 although I have quite narrow shoulders. They say one size fits all but in my experience it rarely does!

Or any other recommendations for a nice top I can wear to a party at the weekend with black trousers? I was looking for something a little bit silky or maybe with some embroidery on but I really can't find anything that I like.

It must have long sleeves and not be too short which is why I fancied a kimono.

I tried one on the other day when I was out shopping, I'm a 16-18 and I thought it was fine, its not like you actually want it to close and I also think, that sometimes too much fabric can add bulk where you really don't want it!

PrincessRamone · 15/05/2022 17:38

I would say 18 is borderline.

They do look very much like dressing gowns when on though. I would wear one as a beach coverup or wafting around the house, but not to a party or an event.

I’ve got a couple of the shorter ones and have just measured one. It’s 26 inches across the bust area (one side to the other not circumference) if that helps. I’m a size 14 with 34HH boobs and it’s plenty spacious enough. They are beautiful.

There was a thread about 100 Stars a while ago ( But I have no Advamced Search Hmm so cannot find it )

I love the look of the ? Kew / Botanicals ( like beautiful passion flowers) I kept getting emails but they've stopped now .

Some do look a but smoking jacket though

Thanks all does sound a bit borderline size wise to be fair - it's a house party so not super smart. I did see a lovely top on anthropology that I really like it but it is £90 which is a bit £££ for me and I'm not sure about it I think maybe it's so distinctive that I would only get to wear it a few times before getting sick of it. I'm a busty 22-24 and I have LOTS of the short kimonos. I wear them open over vest tops all year

Pootles34 · 15/05/2022 17:57

I'm size 18, also busty and love mine. I have to stop myself from wearing it all the time tbh!

lurchermummy · 15/05/2022 17:58

@CornishPorsche Thank you, what sort of vest top do you wear underneath? I'm a bit paranoid about showing too much cleavage or belly!

I have one- I’m a size 12 and there’s plenty of fabric left over, I wouldn’t worry about it for the four inches differences between a 12 and a 16.

OnlyYourSharpestMinds · 15/05/2022 18:07

I'm an 18 and I've got lots of different One Hundred Stars ones, I love them! But the fit for me can be quite awkward - the shorter kimonos for example, naturally come up shorter at the front (due to big boobs) so aren't the length that they look to be on a slimmer/flatter chested model....they just don't hang the same way, if you see what I mean?

The throwovers are a more generous fit, but too long for me. I alter them myself so they are longer than the short kimonos... and they don't then suffer from the shorter bit at the front.
The longer length collar kimonos are much less generous in fit in my experience.

The duster coats fit well (for my size 18 anyway!) and have long sleeves, would they be any good? They are long though, but with thicker, silkier material than the shorter chiffon type ones. They are apparently discontinuing the duster coat style.

CornishPorsche · 15/05/2022 18:09

@lurchermummy I have about ten of this vest top in every colour they did 😂 direct.asda.com/george/women/tops/dusty-blue-v-neck-vest-top/GEM758838,default,pd.html

Greyhare · 15/05/2022 18:09

I'm an 18 and wear and love them, I prefer the collar kimonos to the shorter ones, my favourite one is giant willow one I wear mine with trousers/leggings/jeans and a vest top, something like this vest

lurchermummy · 15/05/2022 18:27

Okay thanks all gave ordered a short one in the crepe fabric and a mid length collared one to try. If they do fit I can see me wearing it a lot. Are used to have a really gorgeous silky kimono which was only from H&M but I loved it, unfortunately my luggage got stolen when I was on holiday and I lost it and could never replace it.

PrincessRamone · 15/05/2022 18:55

The crepe ones do seem to be more generously sized. I’m sure you will look lovely OP 😊(And I was thinking of the long length ones. The short ones don’t look like dressing gowns, even to me.)

Isabelle70 · 15/05/2022 21:37

I am a size 14 and have the short Kew Gardens one. I feel it's a bit big and wafty but maybe I should just wear it more to get used to it. I wear it with a woven fabric cami with a half tuck.

lurchermummy · 18/05/2022 16:23

My parcel arrived - the short ones quite nice the knee length one definitely does look like a dressing gown. It's okay but I'm somehow a bit underwhelmed, I don't think the quality is that good for the money. No time to shop between now and the weekend though so it might have to do.

OP posts:
PrincessRamone · 18/05/2022 20:20

Yeah, that was how I felt about the long one. It’s a pretty dressing gown.

Are you going to wear the short one?

123rd · 18/05/2022 20:24

I felt exactly the same Lurcher. I bought one as a dressing gown but it wasn't as silky/slinky as I wanted. It was a beautiful print ...but I wanted to feel special in it and I didn't so for the money it wasn't worth it ( for me)
Would love other suggestions though

LadyOfTheCanyon · 18/05/2022 21:26

I'm an 18 and the long Kew botanicals only just closes across the front on me - you couldn't wrap it round you. But that said I wear it over light pyjamas for wafting around the house and I love it.

Blewitagain · 18/05/2022 21:46

Yumi have a few kimonos. Not as lovely but still nice and come in different sizes.
