Hunter vs Le Chameau

So I was trooping from my part of Chelsea this morning to meet a school Mum in Fulham. We were going to walk her dog (an awful yappy thing called Smu-smu) with my DD18mo and her hDD12mo so I put on my Hunter wellies (Di's favourite's I might add).

Anyway, the Mum put on her camels and said to me "those are a bit dated aren't they dear". Clearly in reference to my Hunter wellies that I had actually inherited from my DMIL who died last year.

What's the deal here? Are Hunter's out of fashion?

Hunter moved production to China in 2008 and since then the quality has gone downhill a bit. Le Chameau are all handmade in Casablanca (sounds very romantic!)

I think it's a bit odd to describe Hunters as dated- boots are boots. Perhaps Hunter isn't seen as such an aspirational label these days, if you care about that sort of thing (sounds like the school mum does- she sounds pretty awful!)

I brought hunters for dog walking and they went to crap pretty quick 4 months maybe ?
I have Dublin river boots I much prefer them

Dubarry are awful quality now. Second pair of galways to leak. Now don’t bother with them.
Hunters ditto, poorly made in china, have been for many years now. Strange comment to make about fashion though?!
For quality Le Chameau or Aigle parcours. Proper well made boots.

In all seriousness the Hunters aren't very durable in my opinion (the heels and soles wear too quickly, especially), and as a pp said the quality has gone downhill. I find it odd to think of fashionable wellies, but the Hunters were super-popular for a while a few years back.

Hunters are only worn by the 'Primark set' these days, particularly colourful Hunters.

I love my Chams, mainly because they fit me so well. (I have long narrow feet) I can walk for miles in them and they are comfortable and waterproof and very flexible.
I also have a pair of Hunters - stiff and no grip so I am likely to slip over in them. (I live somewhere muddy!)

I think that's the point 😂
