At home hair colour remover query (photo attached)

I was wondering whether a couple applications of hair colour remover would help me strip some of the darker tones from the lengths of my hair, so that when I reapply the red colour dye, it's a more even tone?

As you can see, I have hot roots. I would prefer my whole hair to be the same colour as the roots but I've been dying my hair this colour for 10 odd years now and it's never even.

I know a hair dresser is best option and if I must do that, I will but I avoid salons as they stress me out (hence the hot roots for all these years!)

I've used colour remover loads of times, superdrug own brand is by far the best, 2 boxes, you'll be left with a light ginger colour
