Recommendations for an understated timeless watch

I’ve been overhauling my wardrobe recently, streamlining it and buying fewer, higher quality pieces. I’m really pleased with progress so far. My style now leans towards simple, clean, practical items in great quality fabrics. Jeans, trousers, shirts, classic t shirts, plain cardigan and jumpers, white trainers, leather ballet flats, etc. pretty basic 😆
I am sharing that background because I now want to buy a watch to wear regularly but I am clueless when it comes to watches! It’s the one item for which I don’t have my eye on any particular style. I have a Fitbit which I wear when exercising, shopping, etc. but I want a nicer proper watch to wear on weekends, to work, to events, etc. Nothing flashy or too elegant or fancy. I want something timeless and understated. Please suggest your favourite watch to me that you think fits the bill!

Forgot to add that I am pale skinned and so a silver watch would work best. Not sure about leather straps but open to all suggestions!

What is your budget OP?

Lagirl20 · 10/05/2022 11:33

Up to £100. I could stretch to £150 at a push.

Vintage man's Rolex datejust. I love it so much, so understated and cool.

WinterDeWinter · 10/05/2022 11:34

Argh sorry op, I posted before asking budget.

GingeryLemons · 10/05/2022 11:36

Your wardrobe is my dream! Following this thread for more inspiration. 😊

Tryhard40 · 10/05/2022 12:39

For that budget, if you can stretch to a little more I'd go for something like this thomas sabo one - or this Olivia buRton one if you prefer a round face.

Look at Holzkern watches made from wood, stone, leather - they are lovely. I always get comments (favourable) when wearing it. I wear it most days and it still looks as good as new.

I bought mine post-Brexit and even though it was shipped from Europe I didn't pay duty as the company paid it (presumably covered by the purchase price).

Skagen are nice and around budget

Lurkingandlearning · 10/05/2022 13:29

Isn’t a timeless watch a bracelet 🤔

Jellycatspyjamas · 10/05/2022 13:37

I have two Citizen Eco-drive watches, one with a silver bracelet and one silver and gold. I love them, understated, go with everything and never need a new battery.

fourquenelles · 10/05/2022 14:01

I have a gold Rotary watch that I wear all the time unless I am having a shower or swimming. Had it for over 10 years and it is still perfect. Cost around the £130 mark.

MrsZzz · 10/05/2022 14:03

Like @Jellycatspyjamas I have a Citizen eco-drive which I wear every day. I find them a nice balance of feminine enough without being too fancy/delicate. They have a few in your price range too.

BreezeofGreen · 10/05/2022 14:08

I like this one from citizen.

Lakeyloo · 10/05/2022 14:13

I have an Olivia Burton very similar to the one above. Had it for years and I absolutely love it. Smart enough for special occasions but casual enough and robust enough for every day....and the packaging is beautiful too 😍

beguilingeyes · 10/05/2022 15:44

Have a look at Fossil. They have many styles, look expensive but they're not. I really like the Jacquelin. Some of them are solar powered!

I'm also here to recommend my citizen eco drive! I love it. Got it for a birthday 6 years ago, and it's been worn every day and worked perfectly since. The titanium is light, hard wearing and understated.

I love mine and gets lots of compliments

Beebumble2 · 10/05/2022 18:20

I’m another Citizen Eco Drive watch wearer. Mine’s silver metal with little crystals around the face. I wear it every day and it goes with everything. I really like that it’s solar driven.

Take a look at Pilgrim.some classic styles, very clean timeless lines.

Isn’t a timeless watch a bracelet 🤔

Very good!

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 11/05/2022 09:50

A Skagen would fit your requirements: www.skagen.com/en-gb/products/signatur-lille-slim-steel-mesh-watch/SKW2692.html

Or if you prefer a 'leather' strap rather than a metal bracelet, perhaps this: nordgreen.co.uk/products/native-white-dial-brown-vegan-leather-watch-strap?variant=30592132710518&gclid=CjwKCAjwve2TBhByEiwAaktM1GYxLbhCmq6sAsBcwsrbM7Pakm_QMaY1R7qbX82UtluuLPhYSMh-ZhoCInAQAvD_BwE

And there is also Solios – their watches are simple and chic but also solar powered and B-Corp certified, but they are a little more expensive at around £230
