Several of my nails grow like this one. One nail grows slightly upwards too!

Anyone else have nails like this?

I do, and because of this I can't ever grow my nails naturally as they curl over and then break.

mypeopleskillsarerusty · 09/05/2022 11:15

It's so annoying! I like having long nails too. Whenever I have shellac on my nails it lifts quite quickly. Think I should just keep them short and neat from now on. 😭

Are they very soft?

Oizys · 09/05/2022 11:21

Yep! I’ve spent so much time googling and never got a straight answer. They’ve been like that since I was a child so someone suggested genetics or just damage to the nail bed when I was young

I also have several crocked fingers so genetics makes sense to me

Mine are like that on my left hand. I assume due to ten years of violin playing as a child!

mypeopleskillsarerusty · 09/05/2022 12:22

My mum said my grandads nails were the same so perhaps it is a genetic thing.
They are a little soft I would say, they also grow quite fast.

I don't play the violin or any instrument for that matter. But that would make sense as to why your nails grow that way.Smile

My 2YO has nails like that and always has, so in his case it’s not a lifestyle factor. Definitely born like it.

mypeopleskillsarerusty · 09/05/2022 12:45

Yep, I was born this way too!

DD (5) has toe nails like this, it's a constant battle to make sure they're cut short enough not to curve right back into her toes, but not so short that they get sore. Poor DD.

Throwawaytoday · 09/05/2022 12:49

ps it's not a shoe thing, it's been since birth, even her weeny newborn nails were like it.

Ahh, bless him ❤️

My DS has toenails like this. We call them his curly toes Smile
Nightmare though as so hard to cut been like it since he was born.
Would it help to get gel overlay maybe?

noblegreenk · 09/05/2022 18:10

I get this! No idea why either. Doesn't appear to be genetic, as no one in my family seems to have it. I always assumed it was linked to biting my nails until well into my twenties. I get it with both of my middle fingers and on one of my index fingers to a lesser degree. I just have to keep them fairly short as it become more apparent the longer they get. Drives me crackers.

Mine have gradually gone like that and very soft too. I only have to nudge something and my nail rips. Started at menopause though.
