Summer coat

Salie68x · 08/05/2022 21:57

Really feel the cold. I was out today and although it was sunny I felt very cold. I have a very warm winter coat, black but not very summery.

Need a thin, but warm coat, casual, definitely not wool. Wonder if anyone has any recommendations?
Thanks

I have a navy trench coat that does the job.

KimikosNightmare · 09/05/2022 13:36

Cabbages and Roses have beautiful, but pricey, summer coats and they're not everyone's taste.

Wow that coat is stunning but wouldn't fit my lifestyle.sadly.
I'm more of a jeans and trainer type person.
Not keen on trench coats, always feel very flappy in one. Was thinking more of a parka style zip up coat, a summery version of a winter coat. But thinner a not in black.

Thanks x

I know you said no trenches, but John Lewis does a neat version here It’s quite a relaxed fit so you can wear a jumper under it.

midsomermurderess · 09/05/2022 14:21

Well. It’s a Mac, not a trench.

Ironfloor269 · 09/05/2022 14:22

How about a bomber jacket?

Salie68x · 09/05/2022 16:26

That John Lewis coat is lovely, thanks. Might be just what I'm after
Thanks

Hi OP,

My DSis had this jacket on her yesterday - it really looks great on, is light but also covers up on a cool day. It is like a light parka jacket. There are loads of colours - she has the light green.

Ooh I have this in the red. Easy to wear and always gets loads of compliments too.

RosesAndHellebores · 09/05/2022 21:59

I've got the JL one in khaki. Very easy to wear; tidy yet casual. Might buy it in Navy. They didn't have navy last year.

I've just bought the navy one. It had 20% off. I blame you. I wouldn't have thought of looking for a summer coat !

Jane2406 · 22/05/2022 18:20

I bought this about a month ago & bloody love it! It’s warm & more importantly for the Highlands of Scotland it got a fabulous hood. www.barbour.com/uk/barbour-x-house-of-hackney-clarence-waterproof-jacket

Following in case of any ideas. My ideal summer coat was a brown, thin cotton bomber style jacket from Boxfresh that I had as a teenager, lost in a club and have basically been searching for ever since. Something to wear when I would wear a denim jacket except 90% of the time I'm in jeans or jean shorts and don't want to double denim. Never quite found it (though I'm a terrible shopper, so also never tried that hard)

Glorieta · 22/05/2022 18:49

I bought this a few weeks ago and get lots of positive comments
I'm 5'4 so it's knee length on me
Looks good with smart work trousers, dresses and jeans

What about a shacket? Cross between a jacket and shirt go great with jeans, loads of reasonably priced ones around.
I also like a Gilet type with jeans.

I also feel the cold. I’m still wearing a down short coat most days but did roll out the joules rain Mac thing the other day. It’s not flattering though as it’s too big but it’s totally waterproof and wind proof so pretty warm for us cold people. It’s like this but not as nice www.joules.com/Women/Clothing/Coast/Waterproof-Mac?size=10&id=214680%7CFRNAVY%7C10

Somethingneedstochange · 22/05/2022 23:35

It's still chilly for may. Have you looked on superdry online? There's a good selection on there if your budget will stretch that far.

£300 for a coat, blimey you must be rich, I would use that for utility bills.

midsomermurderess · 23/05/2022 09:22

@Roxy69 , it’s style and beauty. No one needs you to turn up with your finger-wagging and upbraiding. This is a big site with people from all walks of life on it, some can afford that for a coat, some not. It’s not bragging or rubbing anyone’s nose in anything, it’s a chat, albeit one you don’t care to join. There is no rule, contrary to what you and increasing numbers of people like you, think that all chat must be at some common denominator, anything exceeding x must be struck down. If that’s your sole contribution, to turn up and scowl at us all, why bother? Well, I guess you are hooked on the rush this tiresome disapprobation gives you.

Lemoncurd · 23/05/2022 12:37

Have just bought one of these www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-ultra-light-down-parka-439704.html

So light and folds up small to pop in a bag, but also warm and cosy in the evenings. They also do two different versions without hoods.

otterlybonkers · 23/05/2022 17:12

cotton linen cardi or jacket?
Cropped denim or linen, floaty light cardi in thin fabric? Nice with dresses.

A trench sounds too mid season/spring autumn to me, It might look a bit much.

Or even a hoodie if you like casual/jeans looks.

Ignore the shitty comments.
You doooo know don't you that on MN you have to buy everything either second hand, in these legendary sales (I never manage to catch) or at a tremendous discount.

It's a moral imperative. Now, don't be naughty again! Slap slap!

The Cabbages and Roses coat I was inspired by this thread to buy was £450. I can afford it (and even if I couldn't I might still have bought it , worn it indoors and not put the heating on)
