Summer dresses that are not floral?

Lovemusic33 · 07/05/2022 20:47

I really struggle with summer clothes, I rarely wear dresses, I don’t really feel that feminine and mainly live in denim shorts, T-shirts, dungarees or combat trousers but I would like a couple basic summer dresses that are not ditsy and floral (most seem to be), pretty isn’t really my style, I’m more quirky and slightly hippie 😬. I am 5ft3”, size 12, broad shoulders, square bum but good legs, so would like a slightly above knee dress, plain colour (not pastel colours) and something I can wear a bra with.

Im probably asking for too much but has anyone seen anything that fits my description?

Just to warn you, I have this dilemma every year, can never find anything I really like and end up either not buying anything or I buy something then I don’t wear it.

I think you would have to take the dresses up as most on the market are midis these days. I've had success with plain summer dresses from:
Cos, Wrap, Poetry, Seasalt, Boden, Thought and M&S. All in natural fibers, plain solid but mostly midis though!

Uniqlo. Plain and non floral.

EmmaStone · 07/05/2022 22:02

Cos and Uniqlo tick your boxes I'd say. Could try Arket too.

It's pricey but High have some amazing, quirky, non-floral dresses.

Find me a basic summer dress says OP.

Here's one for nearly £600 says poster.

MindPalace · 07/05/2022 23:29

I think I’ve got a similar body shape to you OP.

I got this in the black, and also the sage, gingham, and I don’t look too bad for once.

What about a denim dress? Or a tunic style dress in a charcoal grey?

How about this? They have some other possible options in similar styles too.

Something like this? They're very basic , but comfortable, easy to wash and just throw on. I have some in different colours and while not particularly stylish they do the job.

Maybe this www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/products/dresses-and-skirts/item/tee-dress or they have a sleeveless version too.

daretodenim · 08/05/2022 08:35

I'm abroad right now so can't usefully link but search "denim dress" on asos and quite a lot comes up.

I like this, and a great price, looks comfortable and because I’m short it will probably be just above my knee.

Yes, sadly I don’t have that kind of money, even if I did I wouldn’t spend it 🤣. I think the most I have ever spent on a single item is £50.

I like these, I did have a look at Next but missed these, they also have it in khaki which is a colour I wear a lot of (I like to be hidden 🤣).

I saw someone wearing this and it looked very nice and non-fussy. I am thinking of ordering it because I share your aesthetic and hate frills and florals. www.next.co.uk/style/st689040/100952

I'm a fan of a simple polo dress.
