Do you take your jewellery off?

Just that really. I’m quite lazy and often forget to put it on, but I do think it makes a difference to looking put together. I’m just wondering people who wear it all the time take it off? And if I should just leave it on.

What about showers? Does it tarnish? I have a mix of platinum, gold and rose gold.

Feeling like I need to make more of an effort but don’t have much time to think about myself.

No, I never take off my wedding/engagement rings, Crucifix necklace earrings and an ankle bracelet.
If I wear costume jewellery/watches I take them off.

DontKeepTheFaith · 05/05/2022 20:32

I don’t remove my wedding band unless I have to but can’t wear a necklace to bed or for lounging around, feel like I’m being strangled!

ShirleyPhallus · 05/05/2022 20:33

I take my engagement ring off all the time as I worry about a stone coming loose and falling down the drain!

Zazdar · 05/05/2022 20:34

I usually only wear my wedding and engagement rings. They are both platinum so won’t tarnish and relatively hardwearing but, even so, I take them off for washing, cooking, exercising, gardening etc.

Flamingoose · 05/05/2022 20:35

I never remove my earrings or ring.
If I wear a necklace or bracelet I take them off at the end of the day.

Neu · 05/05/2022 20:38

Never ever ever. I wear gold and silver and don't ever remove it

margotsdevil · 05/05/2022 20:40

Never remove my wedding or eternity rings but remove my engagement ring whenever I get home at night. All gold. Al other jewellery is removed when I take my work/daytime outfit off and put on PJs or loungewear.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/05/2022 20:41

My wedding ring, engagement ring and eternity ring stay on all the time; everything else goes on in the morning and comes off before bed.

Blueberrywitch · 05/05/2022 20:42

Yes I feel gross/uncomfortable sleeping in all the rings and earrings and things. Get a nice ornamental dish for your bed side table (I got a green marble square one from Zara home for £19) and then every night just put it in the exact same place. Hang necklaces on a T bar thing that sits in the tray. Put it on when getting ready in the morning. I am pretty disorganised and forgetful and lose things often, but this system has worked for me for years as it’s so simple and easy to remember, and if you have a nice dish your bedside table looks pretty.

totally fine to shower with solid gold/silver but don’t get any plated stuff wet as this will tarnish it v quickly.

LazyDoll · 05/05/2022 20:47

I take my watch and rings (5) off fir bed and a solid, chunky bracelet I wear but sleep in toe ring, 20+ bracelets and a couple of necklaces, and 6 earrings cos removing and replacing would take FOREVER. Aldo run, swim and shower in all jewellery except maybe engagement, wedding and eternity rings.

AMegaPint · 05/05/2022 20:55

I keep all my rings on but take necklaces and earrings out to sleep in, as I find it uncomfortable. I'm a silversmith and I advise clients the best way to keep silver jewellery from tarnishing is to wear it regularly. So I take my own advice and leave it all on most of the time. If it's true silver or gold it shouldn't leave marks your skin or tarnish if worn when showering. Plated metals are more prone to discolouring and tarnishing faster.

Don’t you scratch yourself / worry you’ll garrotte yourself in the night?

DreamloverTealover · 05/05/2022 21:43

I seem to be in the minority but I take off all jewelery including wedding and engagement ring before bed! I have a little dish next to me for my rings 😊

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/05/2022 21:51

I take my wedding ring off some nights as I get eczema on my hands. I also take it off to put on cream as it has little diamonds in it. Engagement ring I don't wear around the house or at the gym. Wear it everywhere else. Necklace and earrings come out at night

RosesAndHellebores · 05/05/2022 21:57

Wedding, eternity and engagement rings stay on. Earrings are either pearl studs of tiny diamond hoops and they stay in. If I wear fancier earrings for an occasion, I take those off before bed and then forget to put the others back in for about a week or three. Always remove necklace and watch.

JaceLancs · 05/05/2022 21:58

I take my watch off to swim or have a bath
its supposed to be waterproof but I won’t risk it
wear all my other jewellery at all times

DSGR · 05/05/2022 22:06

I take off wedding and engagement rings every night and only put on after the shower in the morning. I don’t like sleeping in them. I have a trinket dish so they go in the same spot each day

IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 05/05/2022 22:09

I take very good care of all my jewellery and watches. The moment I come in the house I always change into comfy clothes and take all my jewellery and watch off. I generally dislike the feeling of waking up with jewellery on. Plus I used to work in high end jewellery years and years ago. I was disgusted by how dirty some women would let their jewellery get. So gunked up with soap, lotion, dough etc. they were always gobsmacked once I cleaned their jewellery and saw how sparkly it actually was. I clean mine regularly once a week.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 05/05/2022 22:13

I take my wedding rings at night, can't sleep in them
I also take them off before I go in the bath and often if I'm cleaning and keep getting my hands wet because I hate the feeling of the water behind the rings.
I keep a necklace on all the time though and it never bothers me.

CornishPorsche · 05/05/2022 22:18

I hate sleeping in jewellery - I find stud earrings jab my head in the pillow and my hands must swell up at night as I hate rings on too. I can't wear a necklace at night as I have a crap gag reflex and it would make me retch if it was high on my throat.

So all bar my wedding ring comes off every night and goes back on after my morning shower!

Iamanunsafebuilding · 05/05/2022 22:26

I sleep in my wedding ring and my stud earrings, I take off my eternity and engagement rings, bracelet and necklace. I take off everything apart from my earrings when I run.

almostmummyof2 · 05/05/2022 22:46

I take off my rings including my engagement ring off all the time. Multiple times a day! I can't stand cooking or washing my hair etc with rings on. Just feels horrible having water underneath or knowing raw chicken has been on them.. wish I could leave them on all the time it'd be easier and I constantly forget where they are!

Kite22 · 05/05/2022 22:47

Yes.
Earrings stick into your head when you lie down. Fine chains could snag. Fingers can swell and so forth.
I take all jewellery off before bed.

anywhichwaytoo · 05/05/2022 22:50

Yes I take all my jewellery off, including wedding band and engagement ring.

I haaaate sleeping in earrings.

But when I head out for the day in the morning, even if it's just the school run and a dog walk, I put it all on. If I leave without my main pieces of jewellery, then I feel naked.

StarlightLady · 06/05/2022 11:08

With the exception of an anklet, which I tend to leave on, there is no other piece of jewellery that I wear day in, day out. So, I tend to take anything off before I go to bed. If I'm wearing stud earrings, I have been known to leave those in. But that depends on how I feel at the time. I certainly wouldn't sleep in rings, necklace or a watch.
