Navy too dark for a spring wedding?

Zippidy123 · 05/05/2022 08:42

I've bought my outfit for my friend's wedding which is in a couple of weeks. I had other May weddings we've attended in mind which have always been cloudy and cool however, the weather is looking to be glorious.

My whole outfit is Navy blue. I'm thinking of keeping the accessories (clutch, shoes and fascinator) and buying a floral dress in a chiffon fabric to brighten things up. I love my current dress though.

Am I overthinking it or is navy too dark?

And I'd rather change the dress than buy brighter accessories.

Navy dress is absolutely fine but navy dress, navy shoes, navy bag, navy fascinator sounds a bit too matchy matchy

i mean, ultimately, no one will really notice as all eyes are on the bride so it will be fine but if you’d prefer to swap then a floral dress with navy accessories sounds much nicer

ShirleyPhallus thankyou. I didn't think I'd end up with everything matching but I really like the monotone look, I think it makes the outfit look classy. I did try a pop of colour and a silver clutch but I really preferred all navy, not so much now its going to be hot!

I might see what dresses are out there.

Monochrome look is tres chic but really not head to toe; red belt and shoes maybe?
Please don't do one of these ghastly chiffony, puffy flowerpot things. Only look good on 8-year olds.

Zippidy123 · 05/05/2022 10:43

LaburnumAlpine I've bought a red lipstick and will be getting my nails done red (my engagement ring is a ruby) so I'm not completely without colour. My fascinator is a disc hat thingy so more of a hatinator. I've found an alternative dress, still navy but a lighter fabric so if the weather does get warm I won't be sweating.

I like pops of colour with navy. Red lips and nails sound lush.

Could you link to the dresses please. I'm looking for a navy dress to wear to a wedding.

The boohoo dress is the original with heavy fabric. The quiz dress is the lighter chiffon that I might get instead.

I love navy and wear it year round. I'd stick with the navy shoes, maybe a navy headband, then get a bag in a different colour.

Cauliflowersqueeze · 05/05/2022 11:20

That looks lovely. Don’t get another dress. Red nails and bag or white nails and bag and it will look great.

Nothing wrong with navy in my opinion.

The Boohoo dress by a mile. The Quiz b one doesn't hold a candle to it. The Boohoo dress is elegant and different (although you are now the 3rd poster who is wearing it to a wedding)

Tourquoise nail varnish would lift that a bit. But navy is not black!
I think it's fine.

LaBellina · 05/05/2022 13:24

Navy is always chic. Can you add some colour with accessories and makeup?
Red or pink earrings, bag, lipstick, shoes…bag and shoes also do not need to match in colour. I keep as a rule that if I add 1 extra colour in a monochrome outfit, the colour comes back in another part of my look as well. So for example red shoes + red lipstick, pink bag + pink earrings, etc, etc.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 05/05/2022 13:26

No!
Please don't do navy and red. You will look like a BA flight assistant. Not that there is something wrong with being a BA flight assistant, but there is a time and a place for that look.

I saved this picture because I love this dress. This is a guest at Camilla's and Charles' wedding. The Boohoo dress reminds me of it.

Yeh dont do red with iy you'll look like qn air hostess.

Id do bronze, or turquoise
Both of those would look good qnd not clichéd

KimikosNightmare · 05/05/2022 13:51

Orange would work really well, although the lady in my picture, Sarah Murdoch, kept it to navy.

(And it was Rupert Murdoch's and Jerry Hall's wedding not Camilla and Charles')

KimikosNightmare · 05/05/2022 13:55

Actually Sarah Murdoch might have committed the MN no-no of wearing black with navy. She still looked fabulous.
