Comfy shoes with no socks

iknowthismuchis · 04/05/2022 21:21

I have a shoe wardrobe full of ballet shoes (cheap and very uncomfortable) or boots. I HATE socks. I really don't like tights but can manage it in winter with boots.

Now it's warmer I'd like a pair of shoes (for work, with dresses) I can slip on and don't need to wear socks with. Flats not heels.

Any suggestions at all very welcome. The added hassle I'm a large size 9. But will happily just have recommendations for styles and I'll hunt out the right pair once I know what I'm looking for

Fitflop do comfy flat shoes, some look like ballet pumps, I love those.

AppleBirdBrush · 04/05/2022 21:37

Do you like these? The style seems to be called 'avarcas'.

Ooh I do like those - AppleBirdBrush. Some lovely ones in Seasalt but not my size, dammit!

SpeedofaSloth - some comfy looking shoes on there but I don't think I can bring myself to spend so much on ballet flats Blush

Novesta do good pumps that don't need socks.

RampantIvy · 05/05/2022 06:38

I'm struggling to understand what there is to hate about socks.

They are comfortable and keep your feet warm. Do you suffer from hot feet all the time?

Sunshineandrainbow · 05/05/2022 06:40

Do you like Tom's? Can be worn with no socks and comfy.

They don't look nice, in my opinion, when worn with dresses. I would feel like a school girl if I wore a dress, socks and shoes. The look would cut my short legs in half.

The OP does mention she wants these shoes to be worn with dresses

actiongirl1978 · 05/05/2022 06:44

I don't wear socks with trainers, can't understand how the young people wear socks that can be seen over their trainer tops!

Are smart white trainers an option? I don't like seeing other people's toes or heels at work, but I work in a place where smart trainers are acceptable.

Branleuse · 05/05/2022 06:46

Doesnt it make your shoes stink?

actiongirl1978 · 05/05/2022 06:51

@Branleuse my shoes don't smell they never have.

I do wear socks with my trainers in winter though as I've got Reynauds so get chilblains otherwise.

SocksAndTheCity · 05/05/2022 06:54

Loafers? I have some pink ones from Office (similar to these www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,302/4348975021, but not quite the same) that are very comfortable and will be getting an airing soon when the weather settles Smile

FairyCakeSprinkles · 05/05/2022 06:58

I'm so envious of these people who can wear shoes without socks. My feet would stink and I'd have athletes foot between my toes by the end of the day. I have to wear those silly half socks that slip about all day.

RampantIvy · 05/05/2022 07:16

I should have read the OP properly Blush
Socks with a dress and trainers is fine for a small child, but would look odd on me.

I have some brilliant trainer socks from M and S that don't slip down, but they only work with trainers. I wear normal socks with trainers when wearing jeans though.

I also struggle with ballet flats in summer and don't have the answer.

iknowthismuchis · 05/05/2022 07:25

Socks make me feel like my feet are suffocating Smile trainer type socks never ever stay on for me. My feet aren't that smelly but I suspect they would be in a proper closed shoes without socks (hence ballet flats currently)

Can't wear trainers really (I'm senior management)

I'll have a look at the other suggestions now, thanks!

I always wear sandals once boot and tights weather passes. Are sandals not an option rather than shoes?

I wear these, including for work and outside work when it’s hot and they are very comfy. I generally buy the brand in this link but people also talk about Palmairas on here. Or google Menorcan Sandals
solillas.com/collections/women/size-uk-9

JuneOsborne · 05/05/2022 07:48

I'm a size 9 or even 10. Have discovered Tom's in the last couple of years. I'd really recommend them @iknowthismuchis ! You usually get 15% of your first order. And there are usually some in our size in the sale bit too.

I live in toms, Birkenstocks and Dr martens. All come in our size!

A size 9 is a 42 in those, which, isn't a size 9 I'd got in. A 9 for me has to be a 43.

Floydthebarber · 05/05/2022 07:56

Loafers. Asos regularly have their own brand shoes up to 9. But i think more shops run up to 9 nine than they used to.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 05/05/2022 07:58

GH Bass loafers can be worn without socks & would be OK with a dress also smart for the office.

AnnaMagnani · 05/05/2022 08:04

My feet would v much disagree that Novesta Star can be worn without socks!

Really comfortable, love them, but one day without socks and feet came back ripped to shreds.

Now only worn with socks + blister plasters on heels.

I have some trainer socks from People Tree that don't slip down, my other lot are completely useless.

TeaAndStrumpets · 05/05/2022 08:07

I should add, plenty of Gabor styles have the leather insole, called "Sport" I think, but I like the moccasins.

Sunshineandrainbow · 05/05/2022 08:12

I bought some josef Seibel shoes last year and they are so comfy soft and well made. Worth the price.
