Let's find the best TK Maxx in Britain

My nomination: Edinburgh St Andrews Square. It's small but full of the absolute best stock. Feels like a proper shop, not a jumble sale. Decent lighting. Really lovely staff. Fabulous beauty section. Always good chocolate at the checkouts. I never leave empty handed!

My favourite is Westfield Stratford. Its a very busy store though and I live a train ride away so it makes for heavy shopping.

_nellie_ · 01/05/2022 12:21

Westfield Stratford store or the Oxford Street are my favourite. Easily find yourself a 70% off Chloé bag in either stores. Amazing men's section, I've never paid full price for DP designer clothes.

MorrisZapp · 01/05/2022 12:32

I didn't know there was one on Oxford Street! Whereabouts?

The Livingston one is really good and big and airy . The worst one for me is the Sauchiehall Street one in Glasgow it feels very chaotic and overwhelming

Honaloulou · 01/05/2022 12:54

The ones in the City are good - small so they're not chaotic, good stock as they know their audience, and empty at the weekends!

PooterLoop · 01/05/2022 13:02

I really like the Edinburgh shop too, it does seem a well looked after shop and has lots of good stock. I agree the Sauchiehall St shop is a bad one. I've never found anything good in there.

I do however think highly of any TK (or Homesense) store where I once secured a lovely item or a bargain and will return to it with the same hope each time.

I like Aylesbury Homesense but don't think much of the TK Maxx and the TK on the outskirts of Oxford is probably the worst one I've ever been in. So much so I haven't been back for years.

I saw a beautiful Mammut ski jacket in the Tamworth one and regret not buying it to this day. Stratford upon Avon is a decent store, as is Leamington. Newcastle upon Tyne was poor. I once got a North Face rolling suitcase in the Lincoln TK Maxx and therefore think highly of the store!

I do like to visit TK Maxxes wherever I go but appreciate my research and results are very biased. Grin

Puffalicious · 01/05/2022 13:11

Agree about Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow being awful. The Arygle Street one is HUGE and very well organised (great for men's as has its own floor), but I always seem to find great stuff in the small one in Linwood, strangely.

My sister and I were just saying we should do a tour of the TK's in the UK😅

MorrisZapp · 01/05/2022 13:13

Oh god flashbacks to the horror of Sauchiehall Street! Subterranean hell!

I'm a fan of the York city centre one too. It's a bit down at heel but I've had some awesome stuff there and it has a permanent association with weekends away for me. Also, such friendly staff.

Totally agree it's subjective depending on your own personal finds. I loathe the Meadowbank one but I can't fully write it off because I found the world's prettiest maxi dress there. Totally ill fitting on the top half so I cut it off and now have a skirt I'll love for the rest of my life. IT'S ALLOWED.

I like the Edinburgh one too. Good point about the staff, they're always really nice in there.

_nellie_ · 01/05/2022 13:15

@MorrisZapp just across the road from Office, it's so clean in there and the staff are lovely, not that busy either

Toddlerteaplease · 01/05/2022 13:25

Nottingham city centre one is pretty good. I hate the York one!

MightyOaks · 14/10/2022 16:12

I realise this thread ended in May but my vote is Knaresborough! I've been to hundreds of them over the years and Knaresborough has the best variety and the very most seasonal items ie: Halloween & Christmas. It's a Home Sense & TK Maxx in one

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/10/2022 16:14

I LIKE the Sauchiehall Street store! I must thrive on chaotic energy. Dislike the Argyle Street one.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 14/10/2022 18:35

Big fan of Croydon Purley way!

JaceLancs · 14/10/2022 19:02

Manchester Arndale always great for me

MorrisZapp · 14/10/2022 19:09

Yay! Back for more TK Maxxin' 😁

It's ludicrous seasonal stock season, can we have a biggest Pannetonne tin smash down?

My vote is for Covent Garden or Tottenham Court Road TKMs. The one on Oxford Street is very crammed and poorly laid out. And outside of central London the Wood Green branch is surprisingly good!

Snailsaresweet · 14/10/2022 19:45

Tottenham Court Road is ace. I bought a (presumably mis-priced) Benneton black suit jacket for £5.00 a few years ago, which I've worn loads. There's a very good branch in Bath where I've bought a surprisingly large amount of fitness equipment, including mats and yoga blocks.

WhereAreWeNow · 14/10/2022 19:55

Oh god, I love them all! I've had so many happy TKMaxx purchases in so many branches. It's pretty much the only place I go clothes shopping in IRL. Sounds like the Edinburgh one is worth checking out next time I'm there.
I agree the Oxford Street one is a bit shit. Charing Cross Rd used to be great but they rearranged it and now I don't like it. The big ones in slightly run down areas often have some real gems.

loottie · 14/10/2022 20:10

I have very fond memories of the one in Slough which I was the first TKmax I discovered.
It was full of absolute tat, but I had time on my hands so enjoyed sifting for gold and being young and slim I looked good in everything anyway.

Now it's very rare I look in the clothing section unless I'm in one of the London branches, I often pop into the Covent Garden one, but I don't think I've ever bought anything there.
In my local one I head straight upstairs to the home and pet section, I've lost count of the number of dog beds I've had from there!

CuteCillian · 14/10/2022 20:25

In the tiny one in Kendal I've found a couple of amazing bargains. The reduced section has stuff that would have been snapped up in my usual south west/midlands hunting grounds.
For example, a Smythson note pad £5, a Natasha Denona palette £10 and an Alexander McQueen mini cross body bag £110.

FeralWitch · 14/10/2022 20:28

Hate to break it to you, OP, but the York city centre one is about to close down.

MorrisZapp · 14/10/2022 21:09

I know, absolutely gutted about that! I do love York shopping though so I'll keep on with my many weekend visits 😊

Rockandgrohl · 14/10/2022 21:16

Agree the one in Newcastle City centre is crap, but the one at the top of Sheilds Road used to be awesome, (if its even still there as it never used to have anyone else in whenever I went and that was years ago!)
Carlisle is pretty rubbish, like a jumble sale, but the makeup/beauty is decent. There is a good one in kendal but its very small!

leccybill · 14/10/2022 22:06

My local one in St Helens is really good.
Warrington Golden Square not good at all.
