Grey roots

I'm battling with grey roots and could do with some advice from a hairdresser if possible, or anyone who has any ideas on how I can improve my hair.

I have my hair coloured every 5 weeks and have been dark red for over 10 years. It's getting more and more difficult to cover the greys, particularly on one side. I had my coloured a week ago and I've noticed that the coverage over the grey is a lighter colour than the rest of my hair and looks really odd. It's really noticeable when I tie my hair back.

I spoke to my hairdresser about it last time and he suggested some caramel highlights to lighten it, then brown over the top. I think this is so that the grey regrowth is less noticeable. But I'm not sure what this will look like. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I'm a dark brunette naturally, and honestly I wish I'd never been near a hair dye or a highlight/lowlight. Whatever you do, the grey doesn't always take the colour on properly and then you ended up with coarse over processed hair. I find the grey gets more stubborn the longer you have it.

I've currently got a mass of bleached overprocessed highlights that my new hairdresser is trying to tone down with caramel and chocolate lowlights. But I've still got a mass of grey root growth. I'm losing weight for health reasons and the moment my face is less chubby to take a pixie cut, it's all coming off.

There is nothing worse than red when you have any significant grey coming through, so if you intend to keep dyeing you need to step well away from that.

Ooh I came on here with an almost identical question. I am very grey now and have an all over colour with a t bar of highlights done every 5 weeks or so. The problem is that the grey regrowth is noticeable really quickly. It's less than 3 weeks since I had my hair done and it's noticeable already. Would love advice- should I be going for a lighter all over colour? Or more highlights? Or???? I have extremely thick coarse hair. This is after 3 weeks growth and is worse in person.

I've been using Clairol touch up dye every 3 weeks on my grey roots. Every now and again I will get the hairdresser to do the roots as I can't cover the back of my hair very well.

I use medium brown. I think they do one in red but it might not match your hair OP. It might be worth a look.
