Skin peeling with ‘Retinol’

TheDarrellRivers · 30/04/2022 15:17

I began using the L'Oreal Revitalift Laser Face Serum a couple of weeks ago, and my skin has just begun peeling.
Roughly how long should I expect this stage to last?
Thank you.

Ease off it a while, cut down to 2 x a week, then gradually increase. No acids or active. I'd suggest a good ceramide cream for time being.

You should introduce retinoids slowly and build up to using them daily. I've been using mine for 2 years and I still need the odd day off when my skin starts getting a bit sore. Stop using it until your skin starts to repair then use once every 3 night for 2 weeks then increase.

Thank you both. I was using every other day. It was a little disconcerting as after using for a few weeks, my skin began to sting when I applied any products, then began to peel. I woke up one morning and had aged about 10 years overnight! Quite pronounced lines under my eyes. (I slapped on plenty of rich cream to rehydrate)
This all seems to have passed, my skin has settled down again. I’m wondering when to expect results.

Retinol is a LONG haul
I've been using it for years. The difference for me is that I don't look different Grin
It's sort of paused ageing and also my acne has cleared totally
Zoomed in but this is my skin and I'm 38

@MrOllivander your skin is beautiful! And what you said makes sense, thank you.

It took a year for me to see results but that was with gradually increasing the strength. If youve started on a higher strength you might see results quicker but itll take months.

Its definitely made the most difference of any skincare product ive used. The texture of my skin is better, its more hydrated and looks brighter. No change to my hyperpigmentation or lines that I can see.

Thanks @Jurassicparkinajug I’ll keep on with it. My skin is definitely setting down, no more stinging when I apply products, and the peeling has stopped.
I’d like to achieve similar results to you.

Oh no never put it under your eye. I used tretinion for about a year which us prescription strength. Retinol and tretinion both travel on your skin so leave a big circle away from your eye. I also aged about 100 when I got it too close. It took about a month to go. Go carefully. You can get eye retinol products which are much more gentle

@superplumb thank you for the heads up! Yes, my eyes aged literally overnight, but with lots of moisturiser, have returned to normal now 😅

Thank you for posting this!! I started using retinol 2 weeks ago and my eye wrinkles are twice as bad as they were before, I didn't realise it wasn't meant to be used on skin under the eyes!!
