DMs - where to begin?

I am probably a size 6 but maybe a 6.5. I really want a pair of black DMs that I can live in. Can anyone recommend where to get them from, which particular style is comfy and are the sizes the same as e.g Clarks shoes?

I've found I always have to size down with mine as they do seem to be quite big. I'm usually a 7 in most places but my DMs are all 6. I usually get mine from asos as I have free delivery, but I think places like Office, Schuh etc stock them, and also the DM website

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 29/04/2022 20:36

I don't need to size down with DMs, but then I do have quite wide feet! A lot are unisex so bigger, it depends on the style, and so it's well worth trying some on in a physical store if you've never had them before. Pascal are the softer leather if you're worried about breaking them in, and I find the shoes break in much quicker than the boots, except the Chelsea boots which have always been fine.

tokyotea · 29/04/2022 22:26

I'm a 3 and bought 3 but I've put liners inside. The pascals don't take as long to break in as it's a softer leather. I love mine

Frlrlrubert · 29/04/2022 22:50

I'm a five, bought a five, fine (I do wear thick socks though).

I got the soft leather classic ones and I didn't even have to break them in at all really. Possibly when through socks a bit quicker as the back of the left heel rubbed a teeny bit.

But nothing compared to the blisters I've had from every other shoe, boot, and trainer I've ever worn in my life. I have a pair of NewRock boots from my yooof that still have literal bloodstains on the inside of the heel. My skin is like tissue paper.

OK that's helpful.
Do the pascal ones last well? I figure if I spend that much money on boots then I would really want them to ensure my stomping around

La redoute have them with 20% off this weekend

I have some patent Chelsea ones which I love. Worn them constantly for three winters, go with everything and they look like new. Only thing is the elastic has gone now and I'm really struggling to find somewhere that can repair them.

Another recommendation for pascals - comfy straight out the box. I’d buy straight from DM and if you’re not in a rush, hang fire for the sales as often chunky discounts.

I have 4 pairs of pascals and despite the softer leather they are virtually indestructible, regular wear 10+ years indestructible.

I find sizing does vary very slightly, 1 of my leather pairs is slightly narrower and I have a gold look pair in a super soft leather that are much larger - I should have gone down a half size.

GreatCuppa · 01/05/2022 08:13

I’ve got the fur lined ones and have never needed to break them in. I’ve got the lace up and the Chelsea boot styles. I’m a size 4 and buy a 4. I adore them.

crossstitchingnana · 01/05/2022 08:25

I buy my size but wear thick socks, or socks over tights. Get the softer ones. I get mine from Schuh as it's free delivery and 365 day returns.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 01/05/2022 08:27

I tend to buy them a half-size down. I love them and have several pairs of 1460s and Jadons in wild and wacky colours/designs. I always get an insole - either their own ones or a set of Enertor ones. I wear them around the house to break them in although really I’ve only really had to do that with one pair.

LaChatte · 01/05/2022 08:56

Durability wise there's quite a big difference between the ones made in the UK and the others.

smith19784 · 01/05/2022 08:59

I'm a 7.5/8 depending on the shoe. I went with a 7.5 and they took a couple of weeks to break in but I love them so much. The 8s were massive on me but my feet are quite narrow. You wont regret your purchase.

Think it will best to actually try them on in a shop - which shops stick them - is it Office?

They're in Office, Schuh and of course the dedicated Dr Marten shops if you have one nearby. We had a local independent shoe shop that sold them too, so you may have similar.
