I don’t know what to wear, I don’t like how I look

I’m a size 16, large chest and no waist, post menopause. I tend to wear leggings/jeggings with long tops, but just look huge really. It’s getting me down. I’ve no idea what to wear. Anything tight emphasises all my bulges. I’d like to look as if I have a waist but find shapewear incredibly uncomfortable and it always rolls down. I also find jeans uncomfortable.

Anyone of similar size and shape have any advice?

I know losing weight should help but I’m sure I’d still have no waist and I’m finding it very difficult at present as I can’t exercise much due to a lot of joint pain.

I’m on a very low budget, we’re talking eBay or supermarkets, shopping online only. I’ve no primark nearby.

I’ve tried looking at blogs/Instagram, but don’t like the style of most. I only wear casual clothing and no polyester due to skin problems.

I am woth you, I'm a short, fat apple and its hard to dress.

Fashion is not made for us.

CottonSock · 29/04/2022 16:30

I have very wide feet and Adidas gazelles are the best I've found.

dudsville · 29/04/2022 16:38

I'd go against the grain and suggest you don't focus your search primarily on things that are slimming. I'm a 14 with hips so wide they'd be a 16 depending on cut. Although I amin the process of weight loss, owing to my hips I will still be a 14 when I reach my target.

Look for fabrics and prints, styles you really like. I recently shifted to loose things. They are not slimming, but I love the fabrics and prints, and I'm so comfortable that I'm happier than I would be in something that skimmed my hips or belly.

@dudsville love your post. Colours and prints do make me happy too! I should remember that 😊

Seasalt have some lovely dresses and skirts OP. If you look out for their sales you can get some bargains. At least their clothes are mainly natural fibres.

What about something like this rather than just a top over leggings?

Impossible to tell for sure how it would look until it's on but the seams might hint at a waist (that may or may not actually be there)...

Mens Converse are great and you can find them new on eBay. Nectar are offering bonus points on a £10 spend via eBay this weekend too.

That Next dress is super.

I’m finding the sizing for men’s converse confusing, sometimes it says mens 7/womens 9/40, but European 40 is a size 7??

@Rina66

What are magic trousers please, I think I need some lol

Rina66 · 29/04/2022 20:00

They are just a very stretchy pull on with pockets trouser. They are so flattering but so comfortable, I've got loads of colours and have over time bought them for lots of my friends, who now also have them in all the colours including the camo version. I wear black ones for nights out, tucked up to crop, I wear stone ones as chinos with a denim shirt, the white look great with all the bright colour cheeseclothy tops , you get the gist! I've also got khaki, navy, grey - not too scary as they're only £25.

They sound great! What’s the material like?

Any suggestions for long loose shirts?

My magic trousers are a viscose polyester mix with spandex and go up to a size 16, they look like chinos though. This company do them in two sizes, size 2 fits a size 14-20.

I liked this cotton shirt from Uniqlo as an overshirt, Uniqlo do a size calculator that's really good too.

Imherenowandthen · 30/04/2022 11:27

That’s a nice shirt, looks long too.

I struggle to find shirts that are long enough, and they seem to be mainly white!

If you like jeans then Uniqlo ultra stretch jeans are great for apple shapes. They still look like proper slim leg jeans but don't slide off your body every time you dare to bend over to pick something of the bottom shelf at the supermarket. Although they seem to have moved to high-rise recently which I don't like so much. They also do leggings trouser and ultra stretch trousers.

airrrrAIRRRRiELLLL · 30/04/2022 11:51

Lily jeans from M&S are fab. I have lots of different colours. They stretch in the right places and when I occasionally lose a few pounds they still look good! And a bargain.

Imherenowandthen · 30/04/2022 12:08

I don’t like wearing jeans, but what’s the casual alternative?? And I love the way skinny jeans look, but they’re not comfortable.

That's a 7

Imherenowandthen · 30/04/2022 15:50

I thought so too.
