I've recently lost some weight so and think I might fit in to some primark bits. Can you tell me your lovely plus size primani tips and hints? 😀

I know it's fast fashion and probably bad quality, but it's what I can afford and honestly I'm excited to do what i think if as skinny person thing.

Sizes vary so much, I need, usually, to size down in tops but up in fixed waists. The quality isn't as bad as some people think, some of my T shirts are years old and still look decent. Two items the same might fit differently

Sameiam · 27/04/2022 09:52

Sizing is all over the place, I've got size 10 bits and size 18 bits. Even two of the same item in the same size can vary a bit.

The bits I've bought have mostly lasted though. Wouldnt say it's as cheap as it used to be.

TollgateDebs · 27/04/2022 13:38

Agree with the previous comments and the sizing can vary wildly. I have just purchased a top size 10 (meant to be oversized but fits great and is reversible too, for £10. It has also washed well) and am a size 18! As for quality, again it varies and take every item as different. I have items that far and away out compete with much more expensive 'branded' clothing and have been in my wardrobe for years and have a great pair of jeans bought two months ago for £12 that are brilliant to wear and wash and their fit is better than another pair in my wardrobe bought for £60. I think it depends on where they source certain items, just go try them on and have fun. One tip is I do change buttons, also I have finished off seams, removed odd detail trim and straightened hems, but this is not something unique to Primark and clothing quality and finish is not what is was.

I’ve found some real gems in there but you have to be lucky. I bought an “Arran” sweater in the autumn for £15 and nobody believes it didn’t cost £100+ and I’ve got a blue chiffon shirt that looks very expensive and has worn well. You have to browse a lot of shit to find the good stuff.

Cstring · 27/04/2022 16:33

Thé sizing is up and down so try them on, the quality is no worse than any other high street shop. I’ve just bought a denim jacket and a nice lemon v neck top that seem of reasonable quality.

Birdy78 · 27/04/2022 16:38

I bought 2 black t shirts from Primark over 20 years ago. They were £1.99 each and I still wear them. We embrace SLOW fashion in this house 😂

NorthernSoul55 · 27/04/2022 17:13

Try everything on, even two ot three of anything you like in the same size! They can vary massively thought that's not peculiar to Primark.
In my experience, jeans are on the small side, tops can be wildly oversized depending on the style, nightwear seems fine, dresses for me are a no no there, waists never in the right place, sleeves that cut off my circulation!

Gowithme · 27/04/2022 17:19

Oh I love the men's stuff - love their v neck tshirts, much looser fitting then the womens which are designed to be tighter fitting and give me sweat patches - ick. Every now and then i find a really nice elasticated waist skirt. I agree the sizing is all over the place - always try stuff on!
I agree that I wear some of the stuff for years, more expensive stuff can be just as badly made - just making a higher profit for the company.

I bought this gorgeous silky top and some high waisted jeans in size 20 in there the other day. Wasn’t sure on the colour but actually I liked it once on. Also have a lemon print wrap top which is very flattering, but does need a vest under it!

Another comment about the crazy sizing. I got two pairs of jeans, 18. Tried on the black ones, the fit fine so didn't bother trying the blue ones. Rookie error, got them home and they were waaay too small. So took them back and swapped the fir another black pair. Just try on EVERYTHING! Good luck .

CheshireChat · 27/04/2022 17:26

Congrats on your weight loss!

My only advice is if you like any of the £2.50 tshirts, get 2 from the get go as they disappear really quickly.

SpottyBumPony · 28/04/2022 08:19

Hehe thanks everyone. I'm hoping to leave DS with DM so I can mooch to my hearts content

Their sizing really is all over the place so take 3 sizes into the changing room if you can for each item

Sqeebling · 28/04/2022 09:01

I got some lovely wide leg jeans there the other day that were true to size. They had lots of decent clothes in there last time I went I just didn't need anything else

Deathraystare · 28/04/2022 11:53

It really is hit and miss. I love the leggings and some of the t shirts are alright but some are very short and some are very clingy. There are some down to my thighs which I like to slop around in at home. I did get a nice dress that fit perfectly. I have had some jeggings nut cannot remember if they fitted and most of the jeans have those rips in (no thanks).

You look lovely and I wouldn't have guessed the top was Primark, it looks great.
But can I ask if you know where DD got her cardi from Blush I used to have one just like that I've been searching for another!

SpottyBumPony · 30/04/2022 18:49

I thought I'd report back. Shopping was great, DH and I mooched around, spent some money and then had lunch. I got in a mix of 18's and 20's

Primark
Green silky top
Trousers
Striped t shirt
California t shirt
Pink shorts

H&M
Black linen t shirt

Peacocks
White top
Blue shorts

I'm really pleased ( my mirror is filthy 😱)

Good haul! I’m off to H&M to check out linen T-shirt’s!

RoyKentsChestHair · 30/04/2022 20:47

Good haul! So satisfying when you actually come home with things that fit and look good isn’t it. Glad you had a successful shopping trip.

@Heartbeats0708 apparently her cardi was Primark too, but it’s quite old so prob not still in there.

CorvusPurpureus · 30/04/2022 20:48

I'd agree the sizing is mad for bottoms.

I've got a pair of black jeans I live in, well, every time I retrieve them from dd1's wardrobe. They're a 20, I'm a 20, dd1 is a 16 & they fit her quite well too.

I bought another pair of size 20 trousers - cheap combats - & they were never, ever going over my arse. Stolen by size 14 dd2 & fit her perfectly.

Obviously this all sounds like I'm just in huge denial about the size of my bum, but I've also got size 16 shorts which fit, size 18 joggers...

Tops seem to be fairly true to size. Cheap buttons though.

Rina66 · 01/05/2022 05:21

I buy their skinny jeans in a bigger size for lounging at home.
I really like some of their pyjama kimonos - in the right fabric you can wear them out with a cami and jeans.
Also like the mens denim shirts and stripey cotton shirts sized up to wear as overshirts.
Trainer socks are good.
Hair bits are usually good too.

I'm still wearing a sweatshirt bought from Primark for me to wear for winter PE when I started secondary school in 1990 (bought big so I could grow into it). It is a bit bobbly now but still wearable!

I have lots of circa 20yr old Primark and some good quality stuff too like a real leather jacket and a cashmere jumper.
