Going brown to dark blonde

I feel like I need to go to the hair dressers for this but I can't afford it long term. I've been using a box dye for my brown hair but it's so grey, I need to lighten it. Once it is the colour I want with the hair dressers help, can I switch back to box dye!??

I was using brown box dye and went to the hairdresser to go blonde but they did a blonde balayage with a light brown root. That means I can do my roots myself every 3 weeks for the greys.
The actual balayage was £££ though

Eeek! How long did it take? And exactly how much was it? I'm going to try and go for a consultation. Do hair dressers do that these days and for free?

Well my hair was originally full of blonder highlights but over lockdown I decided to box dye it brown 🙈 lifting the brown out of it, the hairdresser thought it would take two sessions but she managed it in one. Cost me 260 though, without a cut.
