I've just bought a Chanel bag off Ebay, but I have a feeling its fake as I can't see any authenticity numbers or serial numbers etc. I've attached a few photos of the bag and wondered if anyone could have a look at them and see if the bag is genuine or fake. Thanks so much in advance x

The bags come in 2 leathers. You seem to be referring to the lamb skin which is as you say soft. The caviar leather is like the image. Hard wearing and tough. But it's hard to tell in images if it is a real caviar or not. But I suspect it's fake

It's fake, and a bad one.

The leather but looks more like Mulberry grained leather rather than Chanel’s caviar leather. It is not a bad bag. Is it a real Chanel bag, probably not, particularly at that price.

With no receipt, authenticity card (or sticker inside the bag), and given the price, it is fair to assume it is a decent fake, possibly even a super fake. However that said, most super fakes come with all the bell and whistles - authenticity cards, dust bag, box, faux Chanel boutique etc etc, so even then you cannot guarantee you are buying an authentic Chanel bag.

As an aside, one of my Chanel WOCs (purchased in 2016) does not have an authenticity code/sticker in it but does have an authenticity card. As I bought it from a Chanel boutique, I have the receipt and it is listed in their system so should I want to sell it, I can prove it is real.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond. I've been in touch with the seller requesting authenticity information or a request to cancel the transaction and I return the bag to her. She is adamant that it's not fake so I've had to now open a case to let Ebay decide. I've learnt my lesson : if something appears too good to be true, it generally is. Thanks again.

@Ihateboris I would check eBay's policy about returning counterfeit goods as some places I know will not allow you to return counterfeit and can be directed to where to send for destruction

The biggest alarm bell for me is that the quilting doesn't line up very well

With a genuine one or even a very accurate fake, the quilting lines up absolutely perfectly

It's a dead give away

I would also say the leather doesn't look good quality

The good thing is that with eBay is they are very hot on fakes and you will definitely get a refund.

Lots of fake sellers do this style for £120-£150.

To echo everyone else, for £550, it's 100% fake.

Even just from the pictures (particularly the middle picture in your second post, I'm not even sure what that is?) it looks pretty fake.

You have got to be really careful buying off ebay - there are bargains to be had for sure, I got a lovely Mulberry from there for a great price, but you have to be aware, particularly with Chanel.

Anything below about 2 grand is probably fake on there.

If it's a nice bag in itself then £550 isn't necessarily a disaster. £3000 is a ridiculous price to pay for a handbag anyway.

I have a lovely 'fake Chanel' in that it's the exact same as the classic flap, including pockets and everything (except it has a slightly longer chain than the Chanel which is too short anyway) and is really beautiful quality quality, but just doesn't have the Chanel logo on the clasp. It was about £150 from Etsy!

EBAY will refund you and take the money back. You will have to return it recorded delivery. It is very common on EBAY. I did the same with perfume and learned my lesson

If it mentioned Chanel in the listing I’m surprised it stayed up long enough for someone to buy it, eBay usually remove quite a lot of dubious listings themselves.

Difficult to tell the size of that one, but the going rate for a pre-loved Chanel Classic Jumbo or Maxi is around £5k.

I would ignore the posters saying all is not lost if you like it. Report to eBay, get your money back on this one, and spend some of it on a super fake instead if you really want to carry an approximation if the Classic.
