FFS. I've filed and acetone soaked a d the stuff isn't budging. It was a no brand polish they used and I thought it weird they drilled it off last time. Now I bloody know why
Any ideas? It's driving me insane. Do I just keep filing ??

You can buy a gel remover off Amazon. Or have you tried soaking cotton pads in nail varnish remover and wrapping them in tin foil for 20 mins

BridesmaidPanic · 25/04/2022 22:02

I took mine off the other weekend. I'm not kidding when I say it took about 3-4 hours!

File, acetone soaked cotton wool wrapped in foil for 15 mins, use cuticle pusher to remove a layer and repeat.

When your gel nails are put on you generally have at least 4 layers - I expect to have to repeat the removal process at least that many times.

My base nails aren't pretty but I've filed and buffed them as best I can and put on my own clear polish to make them look as neat as possible.

BridesmaidPanic · 25/04/2022 22:03

Oh and make sure you use proper acetone, rather than nail varnish remover.

Conniebanana · 25/04/2022 22:07

I've used acetone from Sally's.
I commented how hard wearing they were a couple of weeks back. Oh how foolish I feel
I've filed down as much as I can after acetone round one so it's not pretty. I've tried to pre file the other hand but can't even get it all nearly down to the base. I'm soaking other hand now. Bugger me it's tenacious. Does the gel remover from Amazon really lift it like the adverts? I'm cynical

I got the 100% pure acetone off Amazon along with a set of the clips you put on the end of each finger with the soaked cotton pad. They hold the cotton wool on better than foil and it seems to make it a much quicker, less messy process.

Is it pure acetone or just acetone based remover? You need it to be minimum 98% acetone

Use a really coarse file to make sure you have buffed off all the top shiny layer. Also gently file all round the edges/tips as they will have been 'capped' to prevent chipping, but this makes it harder to remove

Heat really helps, so either put your bowl of acetone in a bowl of hot water, or if you are using using foils, wrap hands in a warm towel or oven gloves

Lastly, next time use peel off base coat - it's brilliant!

Can't you just go back to them to get it removed?

TashieWoo · 25/04/2022 23:28

Aliver gel remover from Amazon is brilliant,
much less mess and faff than acetone as well.

Thanks all!
