Talk to me about laser hair removal please

I don't know whether to buy a gadget and do it myself or go to a clinic. I've got fair skin and dark hair and a visible moustache since the menopause which I understand means it works relatively well. Please tell me about your experiences.

Not sure if other people have had success but I spent several hundred pounds on IPL at a professional clinic and it did nothing !! My hair is mostly on my chin, it really depresses me and I am fed up of using so facial derma planning tools. If it wasn’t for the embarrassing regrowth I probably let it grow and then get it waxed .

It worked for me (dark hair pale skin) I had coarse dark hair particularly under my chin, but also a slight moustache. I had it done professionally by the Harley medical group. It was expensive but worth it.

Don't get IPL make sure it's proper laser removal.. I'm in the middle of a course of 10 treatments, I have four left to do and literally shave my armpits once every few weeks, it's fab 😁 and it's made a really difference to my bikini line, I rarely have to shave that now, although the more stubborn inner bits I do, but the hair is a lot softer.

I went for it and got rid of all my body hair. It’s great not to have to bother with it anymore.

However (Im not a doctor and I don’t know whether the two are related) a year after getting my armpits done I found out that I had breast cancer so if I could go back I wouldn’t do my armpits.

I am five sessions into a six-session course of laser treatment on my upper lip and chin and it's fantastic - I used to get them waxed every few weeks and have to pluck ferociously in between, and I've not had a single hair grow back since the first session. Go to a reputable professional salon for sure, but I completely recommend it. Dark hair and fair skin here too.

I’ve had laser hair removal at a professional clinic and it’s the best money I’ve ever spent! It’s a complete game changer. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Dark, stubborn hair and olive skin btw!

Can I ask why you say don't get IPL please?

PrincessPaws · 25/04/2022 21:30

I had it and it was fab, after a few sessions it was a lot less and what was there was light and fine (I had it done at a clinic). Unfortunately I have PCOS so it comes back again after a few years, but a couple more sessions gets it back under control

How much did lasering cost please?

I think I paid around £400 for six sessions. Pricey but for me at least it will pay for itself in about 18 months.

Sh05 · 26/04/2022 08:22

Has anyone bought and tried the Aldi laser hair remover?
I'm so tempted but at £60 unsure if it will be effective

AuntieMarys · 26/04/2022 08:23

I had IPL about 15 years ago on legs and bikini line. Never grew back! 6 sessions, one every 6 weeks. Cost about £600 and worth every penny. I have no armpit hair.

Hi, well it's something to do with the light spectrum, they say laser is more focussed on one area so can be more effective, whilst IPL is multi spectrum light so is more scattered, meaning less effective. Sorry not the best at explaining 😂 but my friend had IPL and her bikini line has more or less grown back since completing treatments.

Scottishflower65 · 29/04/2022 10:38

I had laser on legs / underarms about 25 years ago. Need to shave round knees maybe once every 6 weeks now. My legs were very bad, think 5pm stubble if I shaved in morning. Absolute game changer.

MarineBlue33 · 29/04/2022 13:50

IPL is not so modern these days. Find a clinic that has Soprano Titanium if you can - I had it done in a high end beauty salon - probably a course on my chin of six sessions was about £180
I haven't used the diy method (on legs) but tempted.
