PLEASE tell me what will get rid of dry skin around my eye??

I keep on top of it but my god it’s awful. My eye lids and under eyes are SO dry. Normally vitamin e oil will hit the spot when it’s bad but it’s doing nothing. I have to of course be careful what I use as it is very close to my eye ball. Please can anyone recommend something?? I do get eczema but do not have a current flare up??

OK so for a long time I've had dry under eyes and I was browsing on reddit one day and saw a thread regarding this. People on there were advising to moisturize under you eye and then add Vaseline on top (any petrolatum). I do this at bedtime and since then I've been doing that and it has been working wonders for me!

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/04/2022 09:34

I get terribly dry skin around my eyes. Sometimes you do have to use a steroid, so see your GP about that. As long as it’s short term it won’t do you any harm,

The thing I find that works best is Bobbi brown extra eye cream, it’s very expensive but it lasts a long time.

but perhaps try the Pp’s Vaseline trick first

emuloc · 25/04/2022 09:36

Organic sweet almond oil, is my go too, for the delicate eye area. Really good for mature skin too. I get mine from Akoma skin care.

TheVanguardSix · 25/04/2022 09:36

I use La Roche-Posay Cicaplast for dryness around my eyes and on my nose. It works wonders!
Also, what do you cleanse with?
I suggest Tri-balm (Frances Prescott) or Shiseido's Waso gel to oil cleanser.
The tri-balm is especially good for dry, flaky skin.

@Brawoe1 - do you mind me asking if you're of the age to be either perimenopausal or menopausal? I'm only asking because I developed eczema around my eyes and it turns out it's a symptom of menopause.

I used La Roche Posay eye products (just a small amount, applied morning and night) and within a week, it cleared up.

Toleraine Eye Cream
Hydraphase eye cream

LookItsMeAgain · 25/04/2022 09:46

Sorry - the Hydraphase one I linked above isn't the one I used. The one I used was in a white bottle with a blue cap on it:

Hydraphase Intense Eye Cream

TokyoSushi · 25/04/2022 09:46

That's interesting @LookItsMeAgain I've recently developed this. I'm 42 so it could be the start of peri perhaps.

A bit of blue Nivea cream seems to help me OP.

doadeer · 25/04/2022 09:47

I wouldn't use an oil only, you need a moisturiser then an oil over the top. La Roche Posay baume is great then The Ordinary Squalene oil

Realitea · 25/04/2022 09:52

I’m 41 and have just developed this too, it’s also in and around my ears, it itches like mad! I have put it down to peri menopause
I was prescribed eumovate cream and told to alternate that with Vaseline which does help a bit.

CorsicaDreaming · 25/04/2022 09:55

Clinique All About Eyes is pricey but good

M&S Targeted Treatment for Eyes and Lips also good

LaCerbiatta · 25/04/2022 10:13

I had this but it was eczema. Really looked just like dry skin. Needed steroid ceean to clear it and in the end worked out that the nail polish was what I was reacting to.

GettingStuffed · 25/04/2022 10:44

I use SVR palpebral creme. It contains hyalouronic acid which should help with dryness.

Brawoe1 · 25/04/2022 12:39

I do have some hydrocortisone cream which I did use last night. It’s awful. Just to add I don’t just use oil, yesterday I was adding regularly through the day to try to help it. Today I have make up on and I look like a snake. I do use the Vaseline trick too..

I had this exact issue throughout my childhood, and even now could be prone to it - I found that it was a reaction to my swimming goggles with sea water/chlorine and it was horrendously sore. I had to have a cream from the doctor to clear it up, but now i'm v careful with which cleansers and creams I use around my eyes. I use nivea, and use a reusable pad rather than cotton wool, and I use a serum instead of a cream (I use one from a company called BASE Skncare) as it's much lighter and provides a lot of hydration

dgirluk · 25/04/2022 12:47

Another vote for Clinique. I got a patch of red dry scaly skin on my eye lid, and then some under my eye on one side. No idea why, never had it before. Clinique sorted it out. I only realised this because we went away fro a few days after having had this patch of skin for a couple of weeks and it cleared up - it took me a while to realise it's because I had a mini tub of the Clinique eye cream in my wash kit which I used when we were away but not at home.

I did have a GP phone appt, who basically said - we could prescribe steroid cream but we don't like using it on the eyelid because the skin is so thin, so if the Clinique stuff is working just use that.

It's not cheap, but it cleared it up in a few days - I'm continuing to use it, because she did say people stop too soon and the dry skin comes back - which is exactly what happened to me!

I would suggest a base layer of hylauronic acid, morning and night. Then a moisturiser morning and night, and a caffeine eye cream, or a retinol eye cream. The Inkey List have very good products for decent price - can get in boots or order online. Or, Simple's eye cream is very good, I have naturally dry and flaky undereyes. Your face wash may also be a bit too harsh - The Inkey List have a hylauronic acid cleanser which is really good for moisturising.

Brawoe1 · 25/04/2022 12:51

I can’t use all of that around my eyes @fluffycatpaws my skin is far too sensitive.

it’s dry right up to my eyelashes, not just the ‘eye area’ so also has to be safe invade I end up with it in my eye, which I have managed to do before. I need something simple and unperfumed.

Everything I've mentioned is unperfumed and light. Simple's range are designed for sensitive skin - I have it myself. I am also clumsy and have got it in my eyes! never had any issues.

LookItsMeAgain · 25/04/2022 17:09

If you put a bit of the creams that I suggested on to one of these buds (from Superdrug - available in other stores too I'd imagine) and then apply to the delicate skin around your eyes, it should work:
Cotton Swabs

It also means that you're not transferring any germs from your fingers via the creams to your broken skin around your eyes.

LookItsMeAgain · 25/04/2022 17:11

Also the La Roche Posay is delicate enough and gentle enough to be used around the eye area and won't sting if you get a bit into your eye (but I wouldn't recommend it).

Cheesewiz · 25/04/2022 17:17

I use aveeno and then put lots of vaseline over the my under eyes and eyelids before sleep. I suffer with eczema around my eyes and this does a brilliant job

dontknowhow2help · 25/04/2022 22:45

I've struggled with this for two years, inner eye and around ear and tried everything.

5 days in using protopic 0.1% and it's completely clear! Ask your GP. Amazing stuff.

No way should you use retinol on eczema!

OP, I had a similar problem. Eventually got a referral to a detmatologist (after 5 GP visits). She prescribed eumovate then once the flare had calmed down, epaderm cream.

Others get on better with diparabse or cetraben, but i find the latter irritates while epaderm is fine.

You might be having topical steroid withdrawal.

RunningRainbow · 25/04/2022 22:51

Allergies. I had dreadful dry skin around my eyes and it was an allergy flare up that I hadn't really connected. I had a very pricey eye spray from boots (16 quid) but it bloody made such a difference. It was an optrex one in a silver box. Shut your eyes and spray over the eyelids

LowbrowVictoriana · 26/04/2022 03:19

Full fat blue Nivea. Will definitely work, and cheap as chips.
