PLEASE tell me what will get rid of dry skin around my eye??

I keep on top of it but my god it’s awful. My eye lids and under eyes are SO dry. Normally vitamin e oil will hit the spot when it’s bad but it’s doing nothing. I have to of course be careful what I use as it is very close to my eye ball. Please can anyone recommend something?? I do get eczema but do not have a current flare up??

I had a friend who had this and it was a reaction to milk, so perhaps it's an allergy as a pp has said. Steroid cream and a complete ban on milk has worked for her.

timestheyarechanging · 26/04/2022 04:33

Bach's rescue remedy cream on overnight worked for me. Sorted it within a week.

BusterGonad · 26/04/2022 05:54

Bepanthen nappy rash cream. It's amazing.

overnightangel · 26/04/2022 06:57

I have the same problem, much better since I used Eumovate

ladyvimes · 26/04/2022 07:03

Epiderm eczema cream is brilliant. Very gentle and won’t sting.

I have very dry eyes and have used loads of different creams. The best I’ve found is a nuetrogena hydro boost eye cream. It’s a gel and super hydrating. I put loads on morning and night and my eyes have been much better although they’re still super delicate and flare up occasionally.

If it’s really bad it might be worth speaking to a pharmacist or even your gp. Hope you find something that works OP.

I use SVR palpebral creme. It contains hyalouronic acid which should help with dryness.

This cream is absolutely brilliant. The only thing that has properly worked on my dry eyes which regularly flare up. Better than the Roche-Posay that I also have and much better than a number of other options mentioned here. I have tried many creams over the years! I also get eczema and am wary of steroid creams around my eyes (not that they work properly in any case when I have had to resort to using them). Please try and report back 😊

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/04/2022 08:22

How long have you been using the hydrocortisone OP?

I can't imagine putting makeup on it helps but appreciate that going without isn't ideal for some. What usually works for me is removing any eye makeup with olive oil and warm water on cotton pads, rinse well and use a warm flannel to gently pat the area. I cleanse the rest as normal with Liz Earle cleanse and polish as it's never stung/irritated me at all.

Then I use Eucerin 5% urea face cream, which is a miracle for dry and flaky skin, without being greasy or heavy. Sometimes I mix a bit of Aveeno cream in with it but there's no real need.

When it lingers or gets at all sore red or itchy I lightly pat on the lowest possible hydrocortisone very sparingly for a couple of nights only and that works for me. Letting it get bad makes it far harder to fix/heal.

Brawoe1 · 26/04/2022 08:51

Just to be clear I do not use hydro cream regularly, ONLY when I have eczema on my lids which isn’t that often if I can keep on top of dryness.

I use currently la Roche toleriane ultra eye cream twice a day. This doesn’t sting and does not irritate my skin, however it is only any good for when the skin isn’t really dry.

I have been using hylauronic acid now on my face for maybe 2 weeks to see if that helps but there is no change at all. Last night I dabbed some around my eyes gently and on my lids but this morning my lids are slightly red as well so I don’t think I will be doing that again…. As I don’t want it to get worse.

I will have a look at the svr cream. I don’t understand why my forehead is also so dry though? My skin is horrible. Real combination. So many products make me break out in spots. I currently have to treat top half of my face different to the bottom half and I’m fed up of it!

I've had this problem this winter/spring especially. I think the air must be especially dry, and my allergies this spring have been really bad, and am also perimenopausal. I usually have eczema elsewhere but this is the first time it's been around my eyes. I tried lots of different eye creams, even supposedly gentle ones, but they all stung horribly. I even got so frustrated I very carefully used hydrocortisone or fucibet (which you shouldn't use around the eyes), but those only sort of worked, leaving me very flaky or with very rough skin before it flaked off.

I gave up all eye creams (as they all stung) and tried the Superdrug vitamin e one, very gentle and very cheap. At night, put this all over the eye lid up to the brow and under the eye. Then pat on a layer of Vaseline over everything. And got a tiny humidifier to run on my bedside table. This has helped loads.

EverybodysALebowski · 26/04/2022 09:12

Oh, and the reason to use the vaseline over the eye cream is because it's an occlusive that will lock in the moisture from the gentle cream overnight.

I tried hyaluronic acid serums around the eyes as well, yeah, no, that didn't help and just made things worse.

Brawoe1 · 26/04/2022 09:44

@EverybodysALebowski thanks I’ll look at that eye cream as it’s the Superdrug vit e oil I like (amazing if left overnight in the hair too!)

Op please try the bepanthen cream. It's so soothing, I put it on at night but it might be too rich for the day if you're applying make up, but if I'm not I use it both day and night. It's oily which is great imo as it soothes and deeply nourishes and actually heals the skins barrier.

Op please try the Bepanthen nappy cream, it's very soothing and rich. I use it both day and night, but it might be too oily to use under make up. It's very soothing and actually repairs the skins barrier. It's one of a handful of creams that actually doesn't irritate my eyes more. I've used many brands over the years but the best creams are always the untrendy brands. Hydrocortisone is good, The Body Shop aloe Vera eye gel cream is good, Nuxe prodigieuse eye gel cream is good when it's heeled but Bepanthen is the best to cure it.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/04/2022 15:25

I have this and use a tiny smear of Sudocrem topped with either CeraVe night cream or Vaseline on cotton bud

hihellohihello · 26/04/2022 15:32

Do not use hydrocortisone around the eye, long term use can cause eye problems.

I would suggest hyaluronic acid patted on damp skin with an eye cream over the top.

It seems I'm incorrect about the hyaluronic acid, it made my eczema far far worse around my eyes. 😬

hihellohihello · 26/04/2022 17:48

Sorry I see that hyaluronic acid made your eyes worse op. It could be that it doesn't suit your skin but if you were putting on dry skin that may be the problem as it needs some moisture to pull it into your skin. You then need to put moisturiser on top of it to stop it evaporating off.

hihellohihello · 26/04/2022 17:50

Skin shop do this dry eye gel that was good when my child had eczema around the eyes a number of years ago.

Brawoe1 · 27/04/2022 06:35

@hihellohihello that looks good thanks, would prefer to keep a product as ‘natural’ as I can round my eyes as I do end up sometimes getting it in my eye (particularly at night!) as the skin is dry right up to my eye lashes.

I’ll have a look at these others too, thanks for the recommendations. I can’t find any triggers…. Wish I could!

wirh hylauronic acid, I did use it on damp skin. Iv been using it on my face too, as I said but it’s made no difference at all so I probably won’t continue with it

Please please please don't be applying steroid cream around the very delicate skin (even when it's not dry and flaky) around the eye.
They can do more damage over time than help.

Please see a GP/medical professional before you decide to go down the route of applying steroid cream around your eyes.

That's all.

loveisanopensore · 27/04/2022 08:36

I do use steroids when it's particularly bad, never more than a few days.

Usually I put on Eucerin Aquaphor at night. Really thick but very comfortable.

Palavah · 02/05/2022 08:01

Are you a detmatologist? Because applying steroid cream to eczema is exactly what they would tell you to do.

I agree a derma consult would be a good idea

I'm guessing that this post was directed at me because I advised against using a steroid cream around the delicate skin around the eye area.

The answer is no, I'm not a dermatologist.

I am however passing on the information that my GP and dermatologist both mentioned to me as the skin is much thinner around the eye area, that long term use around the eyes of steroid creams and ointments (and I did mention 'over time' in my earlier post) is not recommended, and I thought it was worth mentioning here too. Along with this I recommended seeing a GP or medical professional before going down that route.
