Are knee-length skirts and dresses due a comeback?

Those of you who understand fashion: is there any hope they will come back soon?

Alternatively, does anyone know a shop that still sells some?

Some great suggestions here. Thank you very much.

Such a great thread. I’ve just been trying to find ‘just above the knee’ skirts and it’s not easy. It’s either super mini that barely covers my bum or midi/mini that well below the knees. Some good suggestions here.

They're supposedly back according to Who What Wear.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/01/2023 18:30

I’ll stand by what l said earlier. We are in a horrendous recession.

There may be a few knee lengths, but not yet.

ichundich · 24/01/2023 18:33

I hope so too as I don't really like the mid-calf length at all; it looks so unflattering on me. I'd try charity shops, Vinted or eBay.

I was just reading that very article!

Fatface and uniqlo ads have knee length. I feel the same as you OP these midi lengths just make me think of my granny and I can't wait for more choice of shorter skirts and dresses.

minipie · 24/01/2023 20:09

Same for me! Midi is the worst on me - I have short legs and look incredibly frumpy in midi. Mini also no good due to thunder thighs. Wishing for some knee length back please.

I suspect that retro (1940s/50s) clothes companies are the best bet in the meantime.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/01/2023 20:44

I’m 5ft 8. I hate knee length, it just cuts me off and makes me look wrong.

l like ballerina length.

Tartifletti · 25/01/2023 00:19

I was just today mourning the knee length wrap dresses from French Connection I used to wear on dates in 2006/7 (with vintage 1970s boots, long since lost!). Sadly I haven't seen anything like them in the shops.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 25/01/2023 00:26

I love midi and maxi lengths.

It's the tiered skirts and voluminous sleeves that are often paired with them that I'm fecked off with.

minipie · 25/01/2023 10:04

I love a maxi but at 5’3 it’s very difficult to find one the right length. Maxis in most shops are far too long for me. Occasionally I can wear a midi as a maxi but they’re usually not quite long enough or the wrong proportions (as not intended to be maxi).

queenofthewild · 25/01/2023 10:16

I love the longer dress look. But they are entirely incompatible with cycling.

Sustainable transport and fashion need a bit of aligning.

Riverlee · 25/01/2023 10:24

This thread was started in April, so they haven’t returned yet.personally, prefer the midi or maxi length.

I reckon it's mini's next.

I reckon it's mini's next.

They're popular at the moment as well. And shorter dresses

AdventFridgeOfShame · 25/01/2023 14:44

I guess if the recession gets deep enough we will be back to utility fashion.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 25/01/2023 14:55

One of my friends swears by Damart. Quite cheap, several come in length 25"
She wears a lot of quite expensive clothes, I was somewhat shocked at her workwear solution. www.damart.co.uk/c-178565-womens-skirts?bottom_length_label=25%22
Add a silk shirt or cashmere jumper and you are good to go.
