How can I stop my foundation clagging?

I've bought some blackhead stuff as recommended on here but the areas where I have blackheads the skin is also dry so when I put foundation on it goes all claggy and looks awful. What will help?
Thanks

Primer
Moisturiser

cheeseisthebest · 24/04/2022 13:41

Thanks but which ones?
I have a great moisturiser but no idea which primer to use?

Smashbox photo finish primer is the best I've tried.

TheDug4 · 24/04/2022 13:45

Primer.
Any good primer from Boots/Superdrug etc will do. Does not have to be expensive.

Lem0nDrizzle · 24/04/2022 13:46

I don't use a specific primer, I just pick a new one each time tbh, all worked the same.

DoubleShotEspresso · 24/04/2022 13:50

OP if you're using a water based foundation it really helps to make sure your primer contains water too otherwise the two fight each other on surface of your skin.
I really find silicone based primers give the best results- there's a revolution or Gosh available in Superdrug which work nicely.
If aqua based make-up I use a Laura Geller primer.
Best of luck

Moisturiser. Then primer. And let them settle before you put foundation on

Do you exfoliate??

cheeseisthebest · 24/04/2022 14:25

I exfoliate occasionally, probably not enough.
Which is a good water based primer please and how do I know if my foundation is water based? I use the ordinary.

You need to exfoliate.

Which is a good exfoliator?

Superdrug Gycolic Acid overnight peel. Use sparingly - start with once a week, max. use around 2/3 times a week. Apply at night like a serum, wash off in morning. Helps to take off the dry skin and uneven texture on the top layer. I found effects straight away but sometimes can take a few uses across a few weeks to really notice.

Exfoliate and moisturise with CeraVe . I did t get on with The Ordinary foundation, I found it lived up to its name and settled in every pore I have!

If you have blackheads you're best exfoliating with a BHA acid (salicylic) not an AHA (glycolic) Salicylic works by going deeper into the blockages and getting the gunk out.
What do you cleanse with?
A good double cleanse and an acid toner will resurface your skin. If your makeup is sticking around dry bits it sounds like you also need more moisture. (Oily blackhead prone skin needs moisture otherwise it produces more oil and you're in a vicious circle)
