Help me with an outfit for afternoon tea

Going for afternoon tea with 2 friends. I always seem to get my outfit choice wrong ie. I go casual & they're both dressed or I dress up & they're in jeans. What can I wear for a relaxed afternoon tea in a city? I haven't been out in so long & I've lost all my confidence. I'm 5ft4, size 12/14. Happy to buy a few pieces but I've no idea what to buy

What sort of venue?

Midi dress and smart trainers. Or midi dress and shoes, if you want to be a bit dressier.

I would wear a nice dress and smart white trainers - I have worn this for afternoon tea in some very fancy places.

So maybe a mid point?

have a look at some casual dresses, and sandals, just seen a few nice pairs in M&S.

I typed in ‘Tea dress’ and there quite a lot of choice

Jumpsuit or a tea dress with black boots and a leather jacket

im going by what is in my wardrobe!

Could you send them a breezy message - ‘Hey, what are you wearing to afternoon tea? I’m wondering about a dress or should I keep it more casual with jeans?’

I would always respond helpfully to this kind of message - it’s nice for everyone to feel comfortable.

I went last week and wore: black printed midi dress; pale pink trainers; biker jacket. My dd wore white printed midi dress; nude trainers; biker jacket. We didn't discuss in advance - if we had, I'd have worn a different jacket! Grin

People there were dressed mainly in dresses/skirts, rather than jeans. A few women had heels on, but I'd say they were in a minority. A few women in wide leg trousers or chino type trousers.

Thank you. I have a nice black & white midi dress which I've hardly worn & also a jumpsuit I had forgotten about so thanks for that suggestion! Also have a biker jacket. Not really comfortable in heels any more so loving that trainers are acceptable 😂
