What shoes do I wear...ever??

I need some help please! I buy new dresses for the summer, lovely clothes, skirts etc.

And yet, when the time comes to wear them, I never seem to have the right shoes! I have going out shoes, wedges etc but nothing for going for a walk around a local town for a browse and coffee or for shopping and lunch. That kind of thing. So I end up in the same skinny jeans and boots and the dresses stay in my wardrobe. Even with my wide leg trousers, I struggle.

I've looked online and watched what other people seem to wear but just don't get on with the trainer and dress look...I feel uncomfortable in it.

Tell me what you wear please and help my dresses get a wearing 😩 I'm in such a rut.

Brogues maybe?

SisterAgatha · 23/04/2022 20:36

If dress - boots
If skirt - boots or shoes (M&S pointy pumps)
If jeans - converse or vans or hi top nikes
If summer - sandals either brown or black

That is all my shoes 😂

Have a look at Hotter Jewel style. I'm a teacher and they're reasonably nice looking but practical and come in a lot of different colours. I have 5 or 6 pairs!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/04/2022 20:45

Trainers or sandals. Shoes are so tricky!

Brogues only work with short dresses/skirts and tights on me. They look all wrong with midi length or with bare legs.

I'm after a particular kind of shoe but it doesn't seem to exist - like a ballet shoe, but with an ankle strap. not entirely flat, a squidgy sole, in pale pink or tan. Can't find such a thing anywhere!

TOMS? I find them v comfy and less chunky than a trainer

ZenKaleidoscope · 23/04/2022 20:46

Vans or doc Martin sandals
Converse

Kittykatmacbill · 23/04/2022 20:46

Birkenstocks?
Nice trainers? - adidas Stan smiths or superstars not last years running shoes.

SisterAgatha · 23/04/2022 20:47

On the back of this I just looked up Birkenstocks and nearly choked at the price. HOW MUCH

KimikosNightmare · 23/04/2022 20:51

Mine, boots, low heeled or flat, any style (apart from Doc Martens which I don't like)
ballet flats,
LK Bennet kitten heels,
Vans or similar provided they look like old fashioned plimsolls, absolutely no trainers

TK Maxx usually stock a Spanish Birkenstock equivalent which are much cheaper and very comfy.

SisterAgatha · 23/04/2022 20:55

I bought two pairs of real Birkenstocks in TK Maxx years ago for about £20 each. I honestly cannot get over the price hike but I suppose it was a decade ago. You never see them in TK maxx now. Although I did spot some Terry De Haviland and didn’t buy them like an idiot.

I only just threw out my first pair of Birkis having worn them almost daily in summer for 10 years. They really were worth it.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 23/04/2022 21:01

Birkenstocks split my heels. Anything that flip flops does it. I need an ankle fastening.

Michellexxx · 23/04/2022 21:03

Loafers are great with midi dresses!

LaVieEstBelle159 · 28/04/2022 22:41

Thank you everyone. Some great ideas. I will try the loafers and see what they look like Smile
