He only shaves once a week but within a day or two unsightly pimples develop. He's asking for aftershave as that's the traditional solution but is it the right one ?
I'm not sure splashing with what is essentially perfumed alcohol will do much for his skin apart from drying it out but appreciate I know nothing ! The spots go after a couple of days but then reoccur after another shave. He uses a shaver btw.

presuming here that the shaver is an electric dry shaver.

Is he cleaning the shaver thoroughly after each use?
Have him also try washing his face in warm water and with a facial cleanser BEFORE shaving.
if he still gets spots, then I’d go for aftershave. You can get un scented ones. They don’t have to be perfumed and think of it more like a skin toner for men.

If you’re worried about aftershave drying out his skin, there is the aftershave balm you could consider. It’s aftershave so it is anti-bacterial (bacteria are causing the spots), but also a moisturiser so gentle on sensitive skin. There are many to choose from this is just an example of one that isn’t horribly perfumed.
