They aren't the same for everyone at all. Your research has led you astray. There are many different HRT preparations and many different doses available for women

"Bioidentical hormones are produced by compounding pharmacies. This means that the pharmacy is able to prepare custom doses and application methods to address the individual needs of a patient. Body identical hormones are produced by large pharmaceutical companies in regulated, set doses and application methods"

I have a custom dose made up especially for me, thats what I mean. I'm sensing some anger here from you. If you dont agree with them, thats fine but I know many, many women whom they have helped. Its really up to people to make their own decisions

dumdumduuuummmmm · 24/04/2022 18:42

I use the Dream Coat supernatural spray. It's in a silver rectangular spray bottle Smile

You seem confused. You are saying you swear by bio identical and then direct the OP to Louise Newson. Not sure why you are suggesting Louise Newson. She is indeed an excellent and highly regarded menopause doctor.

She also does NOT recommend bio-identical hormones

bjgp.org/content/69/688/540

No, I am not confused. I directed OP to Louise Newson because I think she’s a good place to start to get all the information at hand with regards to HRT, particularly as many GPs are useless.

Personally I am all for bio-identical hormones and see someone else, however, given how quick many (particularly on here) are to dismiss bio-identical hormones, I always recommend others to try a more generic route first because they might well benefit from the more standard HRT. I did not, and why I take bio-identical HRT compounded through a specialist pharmacy.

I hope this clarifies things.

Runmybathforme · 24/04/2022 19:00

No product will do much to help the symptoms you describe, HRT is the answer. I've been on it for about 15years and don't have any of those problems.

Unforgettablefire · 24/04/2022 20:39

OP your post could have been mine my situation is the same only I'm not through the menopause yet. The misery after ovulation is really getting too much.
Asked the doctor about hrt and was told no, we don't like to give hrt because of the cancer risk. It frightened me so I just accepted what he said.
My skin and hair have aged dramatically in the past few months, what I find gives it a bit of a glow isOlay night cream and people have commented saying my skin is glowing so it has made a difference, give that a try you might be pleasantly surprised.
I feel lost at sea. I know when I see people I haven't seen for a while they'll notice I've aged fast.
Thanks for this post OP

Have you asked on the menopause board as that doesn't sound like correct advice.

I'd ask to see another doctor.

PAFMO · 25/04/2022 08:11

Definitely ask on the menopause board. JinglingHellsBells is a very knowledgeable poster who goes out of her way to point people in the right direction to do their own research.

FartNRoses · 25/04/2022 18:31

@TheRussianDoll My goodness! You look sensational. If I look half as good as you at that age I will be VERY happy. Amazing 🤩

ClinkeyMonkey · 25/04/2022 19:44

@TheRussianDoll You look wonderful. I think you might just have good genes though, you lucky thing.

TheRussianDoll · 25/04/2022 20:38

The past three years or so, with family bereavements, I’ll ess and a serious attempt by my son on his own life have taken their toll. I stopped looking after myself. Gained weight; lost weight; just stopped caring that much. Drank too much, stopped exercising. When I was put back on HRT (my gp took me off it 🤷🏻‍♀️) and briefly an antidepressant, I picked up.

Thing is, we’ve all had massive stresses and it wreaks havoc on a lady’s looks, past a certain age.

Yes, have decent genes, I suppose, but fundamentally, it’s about what you put into your body. I treat myself to the I Eden because I know it works and I’d rather use a cheaper moisturiser and take the vits than buy expensive skin care.

Thank you, though!

TheRussianDoll · 25/04/2022 20:40

🙄 illness

Wagsandclaws · 25/04/2022 21:01

I'm going to read this thread from the beginning.

Looks like some very good advice from knowledgeable posters ( I'm 50 ).

Also wanted to add that @TheRussianDoll you look bloody fantastic! I hope I look half as good in ten years.

I do cheat a bit, I lost 6 stone and had a very, very saggy neck ( like a proper turkey wattle ) so I have had a neck and lower face lift.

In addition to this I use Botox and fillers regularly but looking refreshed is important to me as I spent my 49's dieting and looking permanently tired.

I'll go to the beginning of the thread now Smile

Chewchewaboogiw · 26/04/2022 14:36

Ive ordered the imedeen !!!
Also lookimg into sulporaphone(?) Brocolli suplement and the fabulous 50s exeecise, pilates and weights. Plus filler! .. and organic cocnot oil.
Glad to see the thead of use to others and thanks so much .

Agree that skincare probably not the biggest factor here, and that it would be worth exploring HRT (and I second/ third? Louise Newson as a good place to arm yourself with knowledge to take to GP).
Also to add: your symptoms sound like mine when under-medicated (I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis). I'd recommend getting TSH, T3 and T4 checked somewhere like Medichecks (many GPs only test TSH - not good enough) and use the forums on Thyroid Uk to get advice on results.
Additionally, check that the supplements you are taking are having an effect and that your levels are good (and add K2 to your Vit D as someone said above - BetterYou do a good combo spray). In particular Iron - which incidentally you need to take well away from your Levothyroxine and other vits (except C which you take with the iron). Get a full iron panel done including Ferritin - this is often low if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (though you don't say if yours is). Your symptoms may also be a sign of anaemia or iron deficiency without anaemia (latter is low Ferritin but normal Haemoglobin - not uncommon in people with autoimmune disease esp women).
Definitely do strength training for a multitude of health benefits but check for anaemia and iron deficiency first.
Good luck OP!

TheRussianDoll · 26/04/2022 18:28

@Chewchewaboogiw 👏👏👏👏 Was in boots today and saw they still have their Imedeen Prime offer on 😊

You’ve made some good choices there!

Chewchewaboogiw · 27/04/2022 16:44

CSJ113 thanks so much for that info. Ive had the tired symptoms most of my adult life and been checked for anemia more than once but told am fine.
The info re the thyroid ( am on 150 g thrroxine) i really didnt know.
I will check how to get the service you recomend and hope i can do it as live rurally.
Also the iron aspect , i didnt know that either. Is there a company ( the same one re thyroid? ) that can check bloods? I have a lovely old ish fashioned gp .. eg when I said i had low mood at chrirtmas time, her response was " oh well we all get those" didnt check or ask questions at all. I was so suprised I didnt say anything. In the city we lived in ,the standard questions re lo w mood would be asked for sure. So how to get the particular info re bloods please .. do u mean privatley somehow please?
thanks again !.

CSJ113 · 27/04/2022 17:39

Medichecks can also do a full iron panel including Ferritin. You may not be anaemic, but you may have low Ferritin and normal haemoglobin (known as Iron deficiency without anaemia - it's often missed in women as not all GPs check Ferritin). Please don't let your GP fob you off in this way - maybe there is a slightly more clued up trainee at the practice?

TheRussianDoll · 27/04/2022 19:13

I tried various Holland and Barrett Hair Skin and Nails but saw no changes. Also, Collagen supplements again, nothing. Perfectly, nothing. Tried Imedeen (different one) years ago… did nothing. I tried again with the Imedeen Prime due to such good reviews and offers. It’s. Been. Brilliant (for me). I’ve always had a dry patch of skin on my back. GP prescribed various things, as it was irritating my bra strap. I gave up in the end. A few months “in” with Imedeen Prime and it was gone. Not less or fading but gone! Being post menopausal, my skin was dry all over and I’d be using lots of body oil and moisturiser post shower. Now, I use it occasionally. If I miss a day or two, it’s fine. It works systemically, on all skin but, you HAVE TO KEEP IT UP. When I stopped, within three weeks, I could tell the difference.

Couldn't open your link unfortunately.

DrBrennerFan · 27/04/2022 19:34

Very selfish I know but got ester Lauder face morning and night exfoliating face thing out of pension payout from now on that’s my face cream I don’t care if I have to save for it for six months I love it worth every penny just brought exfoliating body brush too recharging one for in shower and baths.

Chewchewaboogiw · 27/04/2022 20:28

Chewchewaboogiw · 28/04/2022 09:40

TheRussianDoll
The product i tried to send link for was for
Bettee vits niacaimine tabs
In these are 250 mg collegen and hyloronic acid.
Sorry i cant look up spellings of above at the mo as on way to work!.
Anyway they are £20 a month and wanted ro let you know in case of intrest.
Also , do u think the tret wd be needed also with the imedeen as i guess it will be expensive in the long run as tret is 20 pm plus the imedeen.
What skin care do u use please as you said u use cheap products ? Something has to give and i guess i need to work out priorities / not double up on products etc so any advice v welcome!.
Ive startwd walking daily or doing.a walking workout( there are fun ones on you tube to cheesy music if it helps anyone) but am.then struggle to do.weights and pilates as suggested. ( i dont know if need to do pilates or weights daily to have any effect!) Hope this post has helped others too as i feel.motivatated and imagine its a help to others too x

Ahhh… I see it now. Thanks @Chewchewaboogiw 😊

TheRussianDoll · 28/04/2022 12:15

I think OP, that in my own experience, as long as you use a moisturiser regularly and spf in the day, then really, I wouldn’t waste money on creams. I’ve been using Nivea Q10 from the Savers shop for a while. Just started using No7 Retinol Night Cream (as it was on offer at Boots). I’m perfectly happy with the Nivea, though! What I will not stop using is the Imedeen Prime as it has definitely made a difference and more to the point, was noticeable when I stopped taking it for a short time.

I’ve used expensive stuff topically in the past but haven’t noticed a huge change in my face and neck. Imedeen Prime, for me, has worked on my skin all over.

And no, I don’t work for the company. I’m just an ordinary shopper! 😊
