Hi. So I’ve lost my way with what to wear. I’m 50, 5’ 8 and dress size 18-20. Definitely more on the 20 side though.
I’ve really got in a bit of a funk since covid I guess. Gained a couple of stone which I aim to shift.

But until then I need some cooler clothes. Cotton ideally, don’t mind viscose but as menopausal polyester is a no go!

I like the shirred dresses but am I too old? I bought one last week from Tesco and it’s nice and flattering.

Looking for some inspiration for the larger me please. 😊

What's your budget? Are you an apple, a pear? Linen midi wrap dresses generally are flattering. Toast has some nice stuff, will look up to share if my battery lasts!

I'm the same height and same size op!

I am an hourglass shape, so I lean towards more feminine silhouettes or I end up looking bigger than I really am. So I belt dresses if needs be and I like tucking tops into big skirts or trousers.

I do want to lose some weight too, but I know it won't come off overnight. I want to look half decent while I'm in the process of losing weight.

Shirred dresses are lovely imo and you are not too old at all!

I follow plus size fashion vloggers on YouTube for inspiration and because it really helps my confidence seeing larger women in nice outfits. It also gives me ideas of what can work for bigger sizes, as not everything I see on slim people will work for me (obviously).

Good luck with your style quest! It is so hard when you're bigger, but I think things are improving.

Oh another thing is a decent bra! Especially if you have bigger boobs. Mine have gone up to a GG cup which is not ideal at all but a decent bra at least makes them look nice and also highlights my waist

Shallysally · 21/04/2022 21:55

@texasschmexas mid range budget wise. Shape, not sure. Big bust, thick waist and thighs. I just feel big all over at the moment.

Thanks, I’ll have a look at Toast.

@WhyTheWhales I’m starting to tuck tops in but sometimes I feel it’s more unflattering on me. I need to forget some of the old rules that I used to have though!

Ah thank you! I really like the one I bought. It’s a bit fussy on the sleeves though but it’ll do.

Yes I’m a G cup, struggling with bras too. I’ve worn the same style for years but the material has changed recently and not nearly as supportive. I need to go for a proper fitting.

OK those links didn't work on my phone! Will try again

So , the sezane dress and toast are example styles. They are pricey, but very good cuts for your figure, they're universally flaterring for any size. It really depends on whether you would want investment pieces. Otherwise you could look at cheaper versions of these styles but probably in more synthetic materials.
