Capsule holiday wardrobe for hot weather

I'm so excited that we are going on a holiday to the Caribbean this summer, it's been a long time since I've travelled anywhere and I'm much older and fatter than I was before!
I'm not massively into fashion but I would love to have a bit more of a considered approach rather than looking like a bit of a jumble sale.
what do you think I need for a capsule holiday wardrobe for a 10 day stay?
basically everything needs to be bought new because I have very little in the way of summer clothes and haven't needed much for hot weather for years. Im a size 16-18, big tum, big boobs. Menopausal so will try and get natural fibres where possible.

I would start with bra-sized swimwear before anything else. You will not be able to get a supportive bikini from the high street.

Simply be have taken over the Figleaves swimwear and they have tons of bikinis, but the popular sizes sell out quickly and are not restocked. Pour Moi also have a very good range. You will also need some kind of kaftan/shirt -like dress thing to wear to and from the beach.

I'm hoping for a crop top or rash vest combined with swim shorts rather than a bikini, I can't wear underwires and I haven't seen any large cup sized bikinis without an underwire.
I saw an oversized shirt dress on a thread the other day that looked perfect - this kind of thing...

Ah dammit, link didn't work and photo doesn't seem to attach either.

For non-underwired bikini tops, try Miss Mary of Sweden. They are very expensive, but I'm guessing a lot of the holiday will be spent wearing it.

You could buy the top and then a cheaper pair of bottoms in a matching/coordinating colour to save money.

Ah thanks, I will take a look!

Natural fibres, it will be humid.

Choose a couple of colours and base it all around that. What colouring are you?

In the heat I wear a lot of dresses, less hassle and more airy. It may well be mosquito season so long trousers might be an idea for the evening.

Whst kind of accommodation are you in? How formal? Generally the Caribbean is very low key. For example, I wouldn’t bother with heels, just flats.

I have this in a different colour way and it’s perfect

this sort of thing

What’s your best feature? I would think about that and comfort. Dresses all the way for me! Just change your jewellery/hair.

Akite · 20/04/2022 20:23

I'm dark-hair, dark eyes, olive skin tone. Avoid tanning though so conversely quite pale! Love bright, jewel tones.
i love that Baukjen dress, it looks perfect!

Same colouring as me. Depending on your budget

I wore denim cut offs and simple cotton T shirts/vests. Flip flops. I took all my linen t shirts but actually they weren’t great as they just went all saggy in the humidity. Cotton held its shape better. Nothing tight though as the humidity is unpleasant in tight clothes.

In the evening I liked these with a cotton top/blouse. They’ve got a slight sheen and are a bit more luxe that joggers. Good for the flight too. Can be dressed up or down.
