Summer sandals for 'difficult' feet

I have bunions (but didn't want to put that in the subject title. Am in the market for some new summer sandals - black or neutral (gold, pewter etc) to go with jeans and dark maxi skirts.

I can't wear Saltwater, Birkenstock or Scholl type things because they just rub and don't fit properly (left foot is more buniony that the other one). I can wear toe post sandals and flipflops and wear them on the beach on holiday but for every day wear I need something more substantial.

Anyone have this issue and have any recommendations? Ideally, I'd like something that covers up the problem area whilst not being too clumpy. For reference, I quite like these from Clarks but would rather not spend so much.

Same problem here! No advice though, sorry, but watching in case anyone else has.

Just to say I know you have ruled out saltwater but they mould around your feet when you put them in water.

interesting! So if you wear them wet and let them dry, they will stay like that? Hhmm...I might have to put them back on the list then. Thanks!

Rieker. I have some wedges and some flat, but with supportive moulded soles. Both are Rieker and are really comfortable.

Saltwater retro ones work with my bunion! You need to get them wet and they take a week ot two to get comfortable

JofraArchersFastestBall · 20/04/2022 09:57

These might not be smart/substantial enough for what you're looking for, but I just thought I'd mention them because they're so comfortable (I also have difficult feet). I bought them for pottering in the garden etc, but I wore them all summer and have just got them out for another year. They're quite smart, I think, but I know sandals are quite a personal choice

Only about £13 on Amazon, with free easy returns, so might be worth a try. I had to size up from a 7 to an 8)

Please overlook the fact that they're crocs and have a cringey name!

Yes exactly that. They will mould around your “difficult” toe (I have one too) and then dry in that shape and they are so comfy. They tell you to do this as well on the packaging.

To accommodate my bunioniness I buy the sol sandal from hotter with adjustable straps. They look surprisingly nice on
www.hotter.com/gb/en/sol-sandals-solzxs-product-44?selectedColour=Pewter%20Multi and they do several colours. Also there is an offer on at the moment.

A lot of FitFlop sandals are a bit frumpy but I have these ones and they're really comfy. They also have them in tan and silver.

Have you tried Birkenstock Mayari? They fit around my bunion well - kind of hiding it without rubbing it.

I also live in my Fitflop Barra sandals. I also like the look of the Gracie sandals another poster linked to.

holidayplanner2020 · 20/04/2022 21:35

Thank you for all these ideas - much appreciated! I quite like the Fitflops in the metallic colourway. Food for thought indeed.

I'm quite tempted to buy the Crocs in the hope that they'll make me feel 'sexi' 😉

It's also reassuring to hear that I'm not alone with the difficult feet....

urgh at amazon for naming a sandal ‘sexi’

Nsky62 · 20/04/2022 21:41

Pavers are good, well priced too

ThatsALotOfPassionfruit · 21/04/2022 06:53

I was going to say try salt waters again, I have wide feet and can only wear the originals, the retro ones were so narrow I could hardly get my foot in!
