What should I wear on my hot holiday?

I am going to Florida in 6 weeks and it is going to be hot. I don’t think I have any suitable clothes for really hot weather. What should I get?

Summer dresses? Shorts and t-shirt?

What will you be doing? I’d dress quite differently for a Miami Beach club versus riding rollercoasters at Disney…

QuentininQuarantino · 19/04/2022 13:52

It depends a lot on your body shape and what you’re going to be doing there.

If you don’t get chub rub then breezy dresses are good in the heat. Uniqlo airism fabric is good for keeping cool and not showing unsightly sweaty patches! I also often wear sports shorts in heat to avoid sweatiness too.

Elephantgrey · 19/04/2022 13:55

We are going to Disney so we will be walking around a lot. My figure is a bit on the curvey side. I was thinking of taking my sports leggings.

I will have a look at Uniqlo.

Same! I think shorts and tees/sting vests or linen dresses.

shabbalabba · 19/04/2022 13:57

It will be waaaay to humid for sports leggings @Elephantgrey

Ericaceae · 19/04/2022 14:04

It's the humidity that would make me think no to leggings. I lived in tshirts and shorts in Florida. It's your shoes that are your main concern - memory foam and comfort over style, because you'll walk for miles everyday. And a comfy bag that you can carry water, etc. in, that won't pull on one shoulder. Pack a fold-away rain jacket, as lightweight as you can, cos when it rains, it RAINS!

MistySkiesAfterRain · 19/04/2022 14:05

Next Boy Shorts are good on all shapes I think. M and S Collection have a nice cream linen short at the moment. I also saw some nice John Lewis 3/4 length wide linen cropped trousers for £35 each in navy and white. M&S boyfriend shorts also look good. Have ordered all these for summer anyway!

goldenbag · 19/04/2022 14:06

Shorts and t-shirts every day.

Vohgue · 19/04/2022 14:08

Do you want functional or stylish?

QuentininQuarantino · 19/04/2022 14:08

In Granada last summer it was 50 degrees Shock and I managed in the Uniqlo airism vest tops, flippy shorts (Zara has pretty floral skorts) or loose running shorts, and the brilliant Barr’s sandals from fitflop which look okay (normal leather sandal look) while being amazing for pavement pounding. Even cool cotton liberty strappy tops got a bit damp from being sweaty Blush

It’s too hot for denim shorts but chino shorts could be okay.

RaisinforBeing · 19/04/2022 14:14

Virtually all women wear shorts and either a T-shirt or vest / tank top at Disney, regardless of size / body shape. It’s mostly trainers on feet, maybe some in comfy sandals. You may get wet on some rides or from thunder / rain showers so it’s important you can dry quickly.

RomainingCalm · 19/04/2022 14:30

Have a look at Matalan and Gap for shorts, tops, swing dresses etc.

I've had some great cotton shorts from Matalan previously that I would wear with a loose vest top or t-shirt. Flippy skirts or dresses can also work.

And yes to comfortable trainers or sandals - ideally a couple of pairs so you can alternate them. Functional over stylish every time for a Disney holiday!

Leftbutcameback · 19/04/2022 14:32

@MistySkiesAfterRain are those shirts for boys or in a boy style? I’m always looking for a good pair of shorts!

Elephantgrey · 19/04/2022 15:11

@shabbalabba

It will be waaaay to humid for sports leggings *@Elephantgrey*
Thank you this is the sort of thing I needed to know.

I do want to look relatively stylish but comfort is obviously more important.

I have got sketchers and apparently they are really good. I will probably bring one of my summer dresses but I never normally wear shorts. Will it be too hot not cover my leg?

Shorts and t shirts or a tank. Basically as little as possible.

Ohnonevermind · 19/04/2022 15:56

I’m heading in a month to Florida
I’ve bought some linen camisole tops and light linen mix t-shirts from H&M. I’ll have a look on uniqlo for

This thread is really helpful

Bobbybobbins · 19/04/2022 16:26

Agree - loose light shorts and a loose light top for daytime. Personally would avoid shoulders bare if you are carrying a rucksack/out in the sun.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 19/04/2022 16:55

They are womens boy style shorts.

mumintwolove · 19/04/2022 17:03

Shorts and t shirts. It's the best option in my opinion.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/04/2022 17:04

Throw stylish out of the window and go for cool and comfortable. I prefer shorts and light t shirts. I get burned shoulders with vest tops. Always natural fibres. Very comfy light trainers for your feet. Have fun!

WildFlowerBees · 20/04/2022 12:29

Wide leg floaty linen trousers with a t shirt, natural fibres are better but regardless Florida humidity is intense so wear what's the most comfy and floaty I'd say!

Bickles · 20/04/2022 12:57

No one is stylish at Disney! All about comfort.
Wear shorts but go for looser styles. T shirt better than vest top as more sun protection.
Very comfortable walking sandals as they dry better than trainers. Loose pac a Mac. Kipling multiple bag. I did not look stylish but I was comfortable and looked like everyone else.

What should I wear on my hot holiday?
TokyoSushi · 20/04/2022 13:01

We used to live in Orlando, there is no style, only comfort, at Disney! Shorts, t-shirts, vest tops and very comfortable sandals/trainers are what you need.

Far too hot for leggings/anything uncomfortable.

Billandben444 · 20/04/2022 13:13

H&M has some lovely loose linen tops with short sleeves, wear with loose-legged cotton shirts so you're not too constricted.
