What colour hair dye?

I think id like to dye my hair at home using a semi permanent hair dye. My hair is dark mousey brown. It's quite a dull colour. It's also got a very slight reddish tint to it.

I previously always had highlights but haven't been to the hairdresser since summer 2019 (due to covid and pregnancy) and all the blond has grown out.

Id like to give it a boost, some shine and a slightly different, more vibrant colour.

I've got pale skin, blue eyes. I'm 39. It's collar bone length and polka straight.

I can't afford my own stylist so thought id ask for ideas on here! I don't know much at all about this type of thing. Can anyone recommend a shade or a type of dye? I don't really want to go darker as I think I'd look too washed out.

Many thanks in advance!

Try Garnier Nutrisse 6 light brown. I have very similar hair to you, despite the name, it definitely isn't light brown, it has a slight red undertone and is definitely darker than my mousey brown hair. Very easy to apply too.

I had exactly this random thought last week. I wanted to save a bit of money on salon trips. I went into Sally Beauty and asked them for advice on colour. They told me what they thought my base colour was (which was much lighter than I thought) and told me what developer to use etc with it. They were really very helpful and I think it's better than a box dye as the stuff they sell is all trade but a member of the public just doesn't get it for trade prices.
