Swimsuits I won't need a bikini wax for

I had a laparotomy two weeks ago and am two weeks away from a trip somewhere very sunny. I feel well enough to go, but not well enough to get a full bikini wax - just having my initial dressings removed (they were glued on!) was enough to put me off.

Any recommendations for an attractive swimsuit (one piece or high waisted as I have some scars now)? I've looked for short bottomed pieces but not sure if there are search terms I should be making use of!

If you've found this page in search of swimwear that has been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best swimsuits for women useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

I recommend Cotton Traders swimwear. You might think "older women," which I am, but my daughter likes their swimwear so take a look. They have swim shorts, swim skirt and swim dress and mix and match tankini tops in two styles.
Hope you can find something you like and have a good holiday.

These are women’s swim shorts from Boden. They get a lot of stuff wrong, but their swimwear is the be IMO!

If you want to be covered in the bikini area but without being covered to your knees like Men's board shorts would do, there are some nice Ladies board shorts here;

Be careful if you are swimming in them though; I had some cheap (maybe Primark?) ones that I wore to a water park and the seams rubbed my legs raw once they were wet Sad

Bikini top, earrings and cycle shorts for me. If I look like a frumpy then so be it, I will embrace my new identify 😁

I’ve had this boyleg swimsuit from Seafolly for years - mine is navy though. I think I got mine in John Lewis, but I couldn’t see this style when I had a quick look just now, but they clearly still do it.

After wearing swim shorts for a couple years I'd never go back to a costume.

wonderstuff · 15/05/2022 20:54

I’ve got a lovely Boden 2 piece with shorts and a rash top for sunny holidays. I’ve also got swim leggings for going swimming when there’s no chance of a tan, I googled modest swimwear to find it. So nice to be able to go swimming without getting my legs out.

VorpalSword · 15/05/2022 21:08

As an added bonus, going for a wee is so much easier is shorts and top compared to a one-piece. Much better for lounging beach/pool side.

JennyWreny · 15/05/2022 21:26

I have this one. I loved it so much that when I noticed it was half price I bought another exactly the same.

I clicked on one of the links above and found these shorts which would be perfect - but I’m not paying £48!

Love the idea of wearing board shorts too. Seems to be a trend nowadays.

You may consider Swim skirts and high waisted swim bottoms from Landsend (UK Site)

All the best.

Have you thought about a skirtini? Bonmarche are selling them in different colours and designs.

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 16/05/2022 13:20

Sorry but how does a skirt assist with covering the bikini line? It would just flap up and reveal, surely?

Love the idea of board shorts though.

I have the decathlon costume above but the plain navy one - its great and looks good with a rash vest over the top as well.
