Dungarees for night out

FallenFigs · 16/04/2022 20:22

Have a night out coming up. Pub, bars, possibly dancing. Will not be glam.

Bought these dungarees before Christmas and haven’t worn yet.

How can I style them? Specially coat/jacket and shoes? Was thinking white trainers and poss denim jacket? I am quite tall tho so wondering if the jacket will cut me off on the middle.

Bumping on the hope of some wise advice…

I don't think dungas can really be dressed up for a night out but maybe that's just me. I only ever wear them with flip flops on a hot evening when I can't be bothered to dress up. Maybe I'm alone...but you can't wear those on a night out anymore tgan you could wear a tracksuit and expect to look nice.

LazyDoll · 17/04/2022 22:38

I’d style them as you said but not for a night out. I love my dungarees and wear them with whit trainers and denim jacket but would NEVER where them out out.

LazyDoll · 17/04/2022 22:38

*wear

FallenFigs · 17/04/2022 23:29

Yeah you’re probably right. Quite uninspired of me. They deserve to be worn but maybe not quite yet..!

Don’t really do dressing up though, and am very bored of same pair of jeans

MarmiteCoriander · 17/04/2022 23:33

Sorry, but even with heels and a nice bag, I can only imagine someone driving a tractor or hurling straw bales! A jumpsuit can look great with those accessories, but dungarees??? Anything else you have that feel comfortable to wear?

RampantIvy · 17/04/2022 23:34

A bit impractical for when you need the loo as well.

FallenFigs · 17/04/2022 23:38

Yes v true above it the loo. Also applies to jumpsuits tho surely?

Ugh I will dig out something with jeans. I have dresses, but they are too much. Mainly bars in a fairly casual city. Also I am not a very dressy person.

It's a no from me

PlainJaneEyre · 18/04/2022 00:02

Another no.

EllaPaella · 18/04/2022 08:14

Why not? Roll up a little at the bottom, wear with some nice high tops or trainers. Wear a fairly fitted top underneath or a blouse (I'd go fitted as the dungarees look quite baggy). Some nice jewellery- good to go. If it's reasonably casual where you are going you can wear what you like.

josil · 18/04/2022 08:20

A no from me too OP they look like something to do the gardening in or pop to the local supermarket - not a night out

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2022 08:34

It depends on what sort of venues, surely? There are plenty of places locally where dungarees and good trainers would be fine, and plenty more places where they absolutely wouldn't be.

Pinktruffle · 18/04/2022 12:16

Jumpsuits can most definitely be dressed up, they are a very different being to dungarees.

Floisme · 18/04/2022 12:53

This board is normally full of posts about how dressing up is sooo 2019. Dungarees aren't my thing but I don't see the problem given that the op has said it's casual.

WhyTheWhales · 18/04/2022 13:22

I don't tend to go anywhere v dressy. My nearest big city for a night out is London, which is known to be a dress down sort of city. So I don't think it's the casualness...but I do think of dungarees as day wear really. I'd wear them to work though, which some people would probably be horrified by!

Salacia · 18/04/2022 13:27

Don’t do it! Not from a too casual point of view but from a practicality point of view!

Went out in a jumpsuit this weekend on a similar night out but had forgotten just how grim some club/bar toilets can be. Wasn’t fun trying to shrug off the jumpsuit and hold on the the belt/cardigan/handbag whilst not touching anything and maintaining chair pose…. Plus there’s always the risk of them accidentally falling into the loo if you’re a bit tipsy…

Apologies for brining the urine into the style chat…

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/04/2022 13:45

Love dungas, but not for a night out unless very casual. I probably wouldnt wear them out if drinking was involved either, for the reasons above, lol. That said, if I was dead set on wearing them, I would wear with a cropped top under, so you see some skin, and maybe wedge trainers, or thick soled trainers, so slightly more glam, and bling jewellery too

Towelseverywhere · 18/04/2022 14:26

I think you can totally dress dungarees up. Look at the fashion lift on Instagram who often wears them smarter as well as casual

Essenceandvibes · 01/05/2022 17:53

I think with a white tank top and some heeled sandals you could create a look personally 🤷🏽‍♀️

Jacket would probably be too much, but lipstick and maybe some hoop earrings you could be making a statement!

Also depends where you are going, a club maybe not but a bar or a pub I think you could make it look cute 😊

PumpkinCrumble · 01/05/2022 18:34

What about with a Bardot top underneath? And rolled up on the ankle, like a previous poster said…

Sickoffamilydrama · 01/05/2022 19:05

Yes crop top and high tops roll the ankles up as it's colder then a denim jacket would be fine but roll the sleeves up a little.

This page might help give some ideas thefoxandshe.com/4-ways-to-wear-overalls/

catfunk · 01/05/2022 23:01

Very late to this thread but I'd totally wear them. Roll the ankles up, trainers or hi tops, big earrings, red lipstick. Agree denim jacket or leather.
I'm a big fan of jumpsuits too, barely ever wear a dress on a night out tbh. I like to dance and be comfortable !
