Semi permanent hair dye too dark - what do do?!

I’ve tried washing with washing up liquid which has taken the edge off, but it is too dark and has an unwanted purple/plum tone which I wasn’t expecting.

I’m 47 and had quite a bit of gray on my dark brown hair. Haven’t coloured it for about three years and was planning to leave natural, but got bored and fancied a change.

Chose Castings Iced Chocolate (darker than I’d meant to buy, git confused with numbers in the box forgetting that lower numbers are darker than higher ones).

Did a strand test and thought it looked okay, but I really hate it now it’s on my whole head. Worst part is how artificial it looks.

So, I’m thinking do I try to keep fading it with shampoos and just live with it, or do I go for a colour remover and run the risk of it turning orangey? I’ve used them before so I know what happens! Only difference this time is that my hair was completely natural prior to the dye.

Does anyone have any advice please?

It will fade after a few shampoos. Don’t panic.

Head and shoulders or any anti dandruff shampoo will strip it out quicker

Don’t put colour b4 or any other remover on it- as you say, it will go orangey and be hard to tone out

Keep washing with Head and Shoulders, it’ll fade the colour.
You could do a DIY colour strip with vit c tablets mixed with head and shoulders but it’ll dry your hair out loads

I had a similar issue (purpleish tone) with my last salon colour glossing (which I think is the same as semi-permanent colour). It actually faded to a nice colour after a couple of washes. Perhaps just wash a bit more often, or do an extra shampoo each time?

Thanks.

@SingleHandSue does the Vit c thing work then? If so, I can cope with dry hair!

@GCAcademic so far, I’ve washed it twice since doing it yesterday morning!

It did for me but my hair was like straw afterwards!
